Jim Lee says:

Does someone other than Realtors make up the NAR MLS Committee Amy???

According to my research (minutes of the meetings), Jim, HomeGain was consulted, Ann Bailey, formerly of HomeStore was consulted-- in fact now does presentations every time she is asked-- and I believe is advising the MLS Committee.   So, yes, someone other than Realtors advises the MLS Committee. I believe they are called "staff." And, from my experience, if you wine and dine staff enough, you can lobby for just about anything. Do they make up the Committee? No, but they influence the Committee.

The problem I have seen is that the MLS Committee and the Professional Standards Committee did not think through the "unintended consequences" of their actions. I believe that their advisors did want them to. Thus, Jim, you and I, must live with those consequences.

Have a super day!

To answer the question: "Does someone other than Realtors make up the NAR MLS Committee ???" please go to www.REALTOR.org site and search under Governance, Committees and you will see the names of REALTORS who make up those Committees and the NAR staff who support the Committee. You should also be able to determine from your State Association of REALTORS who, from your State, serves as a voting Director at the National Association of REALTORS. The next meeting of all Governance Committees and the Board of Directors will be held May 12-17, 2008 in Washington, D.C. Email communication between any REALTOR member and Staff, as well as members of the Committee is always welcome. Any advocating of your position should be on a personal level with NAR Directors from your State first. Try it! NAR is you.
