For all of the ePro computer pundits, do you recommend buying Office 2007,
or are there too many problems with it that haven't yet been worked out by
Microsoft? Need to update and am debating whether to get Office 2003 or
Office 2007. Seems like, looking forward, one would choose the 07 version.
With any new program, though, there are usually problems early in the
release.
Thank You! Merry Christmas!

MS Office 2007 on Windows XP Pro with SP2 has been working well for me.

Rich Ayers replying to Kathy Mayus:
Should I buy Office 2007?

Office 2007 it TOTALLY different format-wise than previous versions!  Take a peek first before you buy.  Unfortunately, I did not (although I got a great deal on it!).  It will be a major learning curve trying to find the new locations of everything.  Don’t expect to be proficient on Day 1 – it won’t happen.  Learn the new version while you still have the old on your machine.”

Since you are debating whether to get 2003 or 2007 get 2007. If your choice was staying with 2003 or updating that would be a different story. Why “Update” to an old version? May as well learn 2007 as other software will begin to mimic it and you will be that much farther ahead when they do.
As to your other question, 2007 does not seem to have any major problems. To see if you like the new user interface try it out as Rich suggests. You can do so for free using your browser at the Microsoft Office site: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101687261033.aspx

Thank You,

RE: “Should I buy Office 2007? Office 2007 it TOTALLY different format-wise than previous versions!" I agree with Bill, get the 60 day trial before purchasing it. I think that the new format is good, but it is definintely a whole new look. My wife didn't like it when we had the trial version, she was so used to the older version's commands and shortcuts. She recently had some training on 2007 and realized that there are some things that she can do with 2007 that she couldn't do before, so she'e coming around to it. If you're going to spend the money, get the newest version possible, especially since there seems to have not been any big problems with it. Happy Holidays all!

I have actually upgraded about 1 year ago and I am still getting used to it. I would recommend getting used to before ugrading completely.  Maybe buying a users guide, just to save a bit of time.  I find myself using the help guide as often as possible as well.  Good luck.

I was given a copy of Office 2007 from a friend to evaluate - although the setup is totally different than previous versions it is a powerful product.  My only problem is remembering to save my work in the Office 2000-2003 format as many of my contemporaries are not using 2007.

p.s. Temperature in Palm Coast Florida today was 74 degrees - We have a plethora of possible second homes, and I have plenty of Referral forms for all your clients and customers!!!!

Merry Christmas.

I've not made the leap to 2007 yet...and likely won't for at least another year or so.  I've been testing a variety of software lately...which has required I occasionally talk with "tech" people, and when the subject of Office 2007 comes up EACH has suggested that, unless I have a burning need to upgrade, I should wait.  They've told me there ARE a lot of bugs in the system yet.  Two even said "the release of Office 2007 has turned into the world's biggest BETA TEST".  The primary reason I won't be upgrading at this point is that one of the products I currently use is not compatible with 2007.  So despite what ANYONE says, my suggestion to those considering  the upgrade is to confirm that each of the programs you currently actively use IS COMPATIBLE with 2007 before making the leap.

I have been using Office 2007 Professional on my PC for more than 6 months. It is GREAT! Run; don't walk to get this upgrade if you are on Windows XP. The learning curve was marginal. My only advice is to remove Norton or McAfee antivirus programs completely and use Avast! or PC Cillin as your virus protection software and follow the instructions for installation including the tips put out by Microsoft.com. Hey Kathy,

Office 2007 is different.  Be prepared to stumble around a bit.  It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to ‘save’ a file.  Yikes!!  Not to mention the day I was an hour away from a listing appt and tried to prepare a graph.  Ugh!!

My recommendation….once you are up and running on Office 2007, if you are going to share (email) a file—be sure to ‘save’ under an earlier software version.  For example:  instead of ‘save as type’: Word Document; you should ‘save as type’ Word 97-2003 Document.  The reason for this is because if you email the file to someone who does not have Office 2007, they will not be able to open it.

Happy Holidays to you, John and the boys!!

Hi Marty and List. I was given for free the Office 2007 Professional a year ago this time when I attended by invitation from Microsoft their Office 2007, and Windows Vista unveiling in Philadelphia. I was invited because I am a Microsoft certified professional. Anyway, I installed the free software in my computer, and I worked with it for 3 months trying to get used to it, and trying to develop the shortcuts I had on Office 2003. After all the trials and all the attempts to tailor the Office 2007 to my needs, I finally removed the whole office, and reinstalled the Office 2003. My major issues against Office 2007 have to be the size of the buttons on the Toolbar. These buttons are over 1 square inch in size occupying a good portion of the space. Also in Excel, I was not able to put the function symbols on the tool bar, having to hit the key board for those symbols instead of the mouse click. Additionally, the Office 2007 is not compatible with other software and previous office suits although you can download from Microsoft a 2007 -2003 patch to be able to open a 2003 word document on a 2007 word platform. When I get a new computer I will probably move to the Vista operating system but I will never go back to Office 2007.
