I would like to add Google Earth photo's to my Real Estate advertising yet a normal right click of the mouse and <paste>/<save as> does not work.   I see other listings are pulling static photos from Google Earth so I know it is possible.  Any assistance you could offer would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Dear Larry,

You are correct, you cannot right click and save it as a jpeg file.  You need to hit your print screen button (which makes an instant screen shot of exactly what you see on your screen). Then open up MS Paint (I will assume you have Windows XP:  START --- ALL PROGRAMS --- ACCESSORIES --- PAINT). Click EDIT and PASTE and you will see your screen shot there. Then save this as a jpeg file to a folder or your desktop. Close the file and re-open this file in your MS Office Picture Manager (my favorite and preferred program for this). Then you just crop the screenshot down to the photograph, re-save it and voila! You have a jpeg file of what you were looking at.

Time to complete mission:  < 60 seconds (when you've done it a few times).

I also will add that I have personally dragged a shortcut to Paint into my permanent start menu because I use this procedure all of the time. Whenever I have a new listing I always do this to create 3 maps that I save into my clients folder. One is a the larger map that I can send to anyone that asks how do I get to this property. The second is another map that is close up showing the last couple turns and where the house is on the block. Then I also do a third map (usually and if it is not a boring location on a city block) which shows the hybrid view/aerial view showing their woods/pond/etc.  I use them constantly for reference throughout the transaction.

One last tidbit for you and all reading this. If you know how to do this, it saves me TONS of time explaining things to tech support people, etc. where I can just say, Here, let me email you a screen shot so you can see what the heck I'm looking at over here!  This should be a small but beneficial discovery for you.

Have a great day,

Mark

I have been using a utility for catching screenshots that I cannot live without. The program Snagit from a company named Techsmith at Techsmith.com. It is an inexpensive program, but is so useful to me that I have it in my startup settings. It will allow the capture of a region, so it will do screen grabs without having to go through a second process to do that. It has many options on what to do with the data, print, save to file, and many more. In the morning I set it to print to my b/w printer in order to capture the contents of pages that change often.

Larry you can take a "screen shot" of the Google Earth photo and use that. You can get a free screen saver at http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter.htm  , download the "FREE 5.0 version". Its very simple to operate and learn, 5 minutes at the most. Hope this helps.

Whew!!!!!!

The simple way to 'save' a google earth is to email it to yourself.
It arrives as a jpeg attachment - save it.
Done.

I’ll add my voice about SnagIt…I’m also a great fan. I’ve used this program for many years now and LOVE it!!!  It affords great flexibility in what you capture…even has a scroll feature where you can capture a webpage…including that portion not visible on your screen.  Highly recommend.

Dear Eric,

I am not taking the correction personally, but did quickly try your idea. Nice idea, but it does not work. Google simply sends a hyperlink and the page that opens up is the identical same screen shot as the other browser window.  So, not to call you 'goofy' but maybe this used to work for you, but most definitely does not work now with Google and IE7. Trust me, I just made 3 attempts at it. Actually, Eric, I was hoping that would work because it would be quicker.

So I still revert back to my original way of doing things.

Wouldn't that be a copyright violation?  Google has the copyright to the technology and the aerial maps that it creates.

It's not really clear on their web site, but is says the free version is for personal/home use. They have a professional version for commercial use which costs $400.  I would check with them before you use it for commercial purposes and make sure it is okay.  Otherwise you might need to pony up $400 to use it on the listings.

Larry,

I use SnagIt, a program from Tech Smith. (http://techsmith.com) You can try it before you buy. It’s a very versatile program that allows you to capture any portion of your screen as an image file. You can even use the scrolling window capture to create an image of a web page that requires scrolling to see the entire thing. You can do a capture of anything on your computer screen, not just websites. For an example of some of the things that I’ve done with SnagIt, you can take a look at my blog, http://HometownGeorgetown.com/blog. I use SnagIt at least a couple of times each week. Oh, and it costs about $40!

Good luck!

Lawrence, I use a company called pixelmetrics. It allows you to capture anyting on the web as a jpg. It runs about $20.00 but you can try it out for a few days for free to see if its somthing you like. I use it for most of my blog posts. Good Luck Los Altos Dave
