I am overwhelmed trying to remember al my different usernames passwords.
How do others keep track of these?

I use Password Agent. It uses a floppy disk to
store logins and passwords, and it generates
passwords too. A very simple program to
use. Every once in awhile I print out a hard
copy in case something happens to the
floppy. You can get info about it at http://www.moonsoftware.com/.

However, that doesn't protect against unauthorized physical access to the computer or unencrypted backups, as well as against loss or theft.

Excerpt from California Civil Code Section 198.81.5
"(b) A business that owns or licenses personal information about a California resident shall implement and maintain reasonable security procedures and practices appropriate to the nature of the information, to protect the personal information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure."

Other states may have similar laws. Many of us have client/customer personal information on our computers either in our contact databases or in other files, such as faxes, PDFs, scans and email. Login passwords alone don't protect that data in a reasonable way. There are numerous news articles concerning notebook computers and backup media being lost or stolen and personal/government information being compromised.

I have this problem too.  I have a password manager that comes up all the time asking if I want it to save.  is this safe?

Keeping passwords safe..

I suggest using www.keepass.info an open source (FREE) totally secure,
using the best and most secure encryption algorithms currently known (AES
and Twofish). Not enough time in the Universe to hack...

The other optin is to use a an ecrypted USB drive... There are several apps
that can create encrypted, secure drives..The downside is that if you have
senior moment and forget your password, you are very screwed..

I suggest using a passphrase, ie: "Airborne all the way!" easy for me to
remember, hard for another to brute force attack or guess...

I have been using Password Plus on my Treo 650 which syncs to my desktop. usernames on both devices. It can be ordered from Dataviz at www.dataviz.com(inexpensive).
