 RealPix Digital Real Estate Camera

Ok I know we have had allot of dialog about wide angle lens cameras.
The Kodak V570,V705 and V610. And the Panasonic Lumix models. And someone mentioned the Canon SD800. I was looking for reviews and prices etc. when
I goggled wide angle digital cameras for realtors and I got this RealPix camera site. It just came out in July in Nashville TN. Made exclusively for realtors.
22mm with supposedly an excellent lens and flash. No other purpose except to take excellent quality home photos in the correct size for web etc.
no confusing multi features.
Priced at $299.00. Has anyone gotten this camera. I would like to get feedback. I have had two digital cameras. One was a Kodak and the next was a HP. I am not happy with the quality from either for RE pictures. I want a camera that will take great RE photos and was really curious about this one and want to make sure this company is legit.

Yes, this company is legit.  I just purchased the camera with the one year unlimited VT program that they offer for $499.  It's the Kodak V705.  It's been great!   They are just finishing their beta program (newest version) of HD wide angle and it's really super.  There support has been unbelievable in getting me up and running with it too.  I'm still learning on the Kodak camera, it does a lot and is truly made for Realtors.   It stitches 2 or 3 pictures together.  I heard about them at the Coldwell Banker Elite Retreat in L.A. back in August.  I hope this helps.

I look at the web site regarding that camera. Do you really believe that camera with that little piece of glass will do the job? Save your money and buy a brand name with a reputation. Try to stand above the crowd. We Realtors are spending a lot of money on marketing. One of the best marketing tools is a camera. Buyers, when searching for properties, always look first for pictures. Second, they look for location. You can show that with a well taken picture too. Look at the housing add pictures from your local newspaper. More than half do not show how they are located, because they only show part of the front of the home or part of the front yard. A good picture is also a selling item. Not so long ago I saw a picture of the front entrance and door of a million dollar home advertisement. A buyer want to see the whole house for that million and not the front entrance!

Thank you Ronny for your comment about.  I've been saying this same thing for a couple of years now, that the Kodak V570 and the V705 don't take high quality photos. The glass is too small to have any real quality.  The photos at 100% crop are not sharp, not clear, don't have good color, and have chromic aberration (purple fringing).  In fact, I've been recommending against these two cameras, but yet so many agents have been buying them.

Many of you have asked which camera I recommend for real estate photography. Unfortunately, there isn't one that I currently recommend, other than a digital SLR camera such as the Canon Digital Rebel, or Nikon D40, or higher models. That's because you can't get 24mm on any point and shoot, except for the above 2 kodak cameras. I'm not sure why all manufacturers have moved away from 24mm lenses, but they have. So my only recommendation right now is a Canon or Nikon DSLR and a 10-20 type lens for it.

Ø      I purchased the Kodak V570 after reading a post from e-Pro about the dual lens camera being recommended by a real estate photography class instructor. After reading the post, I immediately searched for one online and found it for $180. With the extra battery and 4 GB SD memory, misc other stuff it was $250. I love it!

It takes great pictures and I can get a whole room from in the view from the doorway. Highly recommend it! Best of all, it fits in my pocket!!

Beware of any website promoting a camera that doesn’t show you photo examples! This camera also only takes 640x480 resolution. That’s what my first Epson camera maxed out at, and that was back in 1996.

With the prices of digital SLRs coming down, my recommendation would be to get something like the Nikon D40. It’s not that much more than the Kodak. Get a couple agents in your office to go in on one (or get your Broker to buy it!). Then start using good photography as a differentiator.

Hey Steven, do you know of any digital cameras with 24mm lenses that are not manufactured any more? If so, eBay etc. may be worth looking at.

I agree with Steven. You simply cannot take quality real estate photos with
a cheap point and shoot digital camera usually held at arms length. These
days you need a digital SLR and extreme wide angle lens as well as the
proper flash equipment and the ability and knowledge to use it. The photos
at the following link were produced using and Canon 400D (Rebel Xti), Canon
10-20mm lens and a Canon Strobe set on manual with a flash diffuser.
