I love my Blackberry Pearl. It is a handy size, and very easy to use. I love that it has a camera, and I agree the rollar ball great.
Can some one help me with some basics? I'm thinking of either a Blackberry or Treo for my next phone. I have U.S. Cellular as my carrier. What the the basic differences, strengths and weaknesses of each? Also, what about price?
Thanks for your help

I have used Treo's for several years, and found that they just don't do that
good a job on voice telephone... many people complained they could not hear
me or that I was breaking up (they meant audibly, not mentally, but either
way...) so I switched to a blackberry... that was better, but not as good a
"regular" phone...
If you want email, then I would go with the blackberry... but remember that
it is a combination unit, and as such does none of the individual tasks as
well as a dedicated unit... compromise is the word...
Hope that helps.

Some cellular companies, in particular, T-Mobile, allow you to use your handset as a tethered modem. The Blackberry Curve does exactly that. Although it is not as fast as an air card, the tethered modem allows you to use your laptop anywhere there is a cell signal. If you have an unlimited phone minutes plan, i.e. T-Mobile's 99 dollar unlimited minutes, then this is extremely affordable. There is no fee to use it other than your minutes and T-Mobile Support is extremely cooperative in assisting. I can provide instructions if you email me at: Bob@UrbanUtah.com
Once again, not a panacea but definitely cheaper than paying for an air card and 60 bucks a month for data.

I researched both the Blackberry and the Treo. What I found was unhappy users from both camps. (Of course there are happy ones too, but they don't spend as much time on the boards!) I ended up with a Moto-Q. It runs windows mobile, does not freeze up like the blackberry and the Treo, and has excellent reception. It also syncs with Outlook without a hitch, unlike the Blackberry that was so problematic. It also has push email, which I love. You might want to make a list of the features that are most important to you (reception, email, internet, etc.) and google reviews on the phones you are comparing. There is a lot of information out there, but what works best for one, may not be the solution for everyone. Good luck.

As someone who has used both the Treo and The Blackberry, I have to tell you, I think there is no comparison. When I first got my Treo I was thrilled. But it wasn't long before it was freezing up and failing - often. I replaced it with a Blackberry last year and I don't know what I would do without it. I think it helps me to be so much more efficient. I can respond to emails, look things up on the web, and talk on the phone. And as someone who is definitely a multi-tasker, I love it.

I decided to go with the phone that serves my need for tools. The Treo also works as a Supra key. As far as I know, the Blackberry does not. I also like the touch-screen technology.

I have fellow agents in my office that once had the Treo and experienced the same issues as indicated in this blog. They became so frustrated at the disruption to their business that the loss of the use of their phone caused. Many have switched to the Blackberry. I am using the new Palm Centro phone by Sprint and love it! It is cheaper than the Blackberry and does everything the Blackberry does except the GPS feature, which is okay with me. Further more, it syncs with my systems easily and seamlessly. Not sure if this helps at all or not.

I was in your shoes a week ago. When I finally made my decision to go with the Treo, Verizon told me they were sold out in Michigan and I'd have to wait up to a week.
I had heard positive reviews about the Blackberry and decided to give it a shot and got the Curve. Love, love, LOVE it! I'm a heavy gmail/google user and the Curve syncs with google calendar beautifully. Email is a breeze and with apps for social networking like Facebook & Flickr, I now can't imagine doing without it.
Can't give an opinion about how it compares with Treo, but I'm sold on the Blackberry.
