I am on the MLS Board of Directors and we are in the process of having a strategic planning session.  We have our own MLS and considering options to become RETS compliant.  Any suggestions on major MLS vendors that are leading the pack on RETS compliant?

Lori,

All of the major MLS vendors are RETS compliant. All of the companies with compliant RETS servers are listed on the following page: http://www.rets.org/server. Some are provided with a complete MLS system, others may be available to supplement your existing system. We can discuss the many options further when I see you at your planning session.

Lori, John Holley here, I'm the Chair of the RETS Certification Work
Group for 2008. If you are planning a new RETS server please be sure
your vendor supplies you with one that is Version 1.7.2 compliant. Most
of the majors will have this or are close to having it. A list of
vendors that have run their RETS servers through compliance testing can
be found on www.rets.org/server. 1.7.2 was ratified in August while the
RETS / RESO group met in Chicago and it is a good spec. If you have any
questions please don't hesitate to contact me at johnh@ntreis.net. I'm
more than happy to help. NTREIS is the Regional MLS of the Dallas/Ft.
Worth area and we are ALMOST 100% RETS now updating most IDX web sites
every 15 minutes with current data. This has been a great benefit for
our brokers and agents. (ok, end of commercial)

Re your Aug 20 question about RETS servers,

I have been on the BOD at the South Bay Association of Realtors, Torrance, Calif.  for the last 6 years.  We have been going through the same. We merged our MLS service with MRMLS another  MLS service recently. Currently we just went live with Carets.  The provider we are using is Canadian, Tarasoft. I am not as close to the subject as Carol Olney is, our current Assoc. president, but in my opinion as an agent, I an happy with Tarasoft. They seem to have been very responsive and helpful.  The merger and changes that occured when we started to use Tarasoft caused a tremendous amount of negative emotional responses initially from Brokers and Agents. Now everyone is used to it but I would strongly suggest that as you consider all of this, that you somehow do a better job than we did of communicating our progress to the Assoc. members so that they are prepared and will accept any changes you need to make as your wade through this process. Just a thought.

I am a member of the other MRMLS and a MLS committee member and also a FOCUS group member of the MRMLS. I have the feeling that our Boards have done very well in communicating with the Assoc. Members. The only problem I have is with the violation penalties whereby other MLS had negotiated a softer policy.
