What type of policies are out there regarding 3rd party "vendor" access to the MLS System? We have received MLS access requests from the Homes Magazine vendor(s) in our area, virtual tour companies, listing syndication companies, etc. All of these vendors claim it will be easier on their customers (our members) if they had direct access to pull photos & data. Additionally, access by these vendors makes it an easier sell to potential customers.
We've always taken the role that access is only granted to licensed individuals or administrative assistants that work for the office...not people that sell products/services to the offices.
Just wondering if other people have this issue and if you are charging these vendors for access, requiring affiliate membership, etc.?

The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® has been struggling with this issue for several months. The bottom line is that IDX access is only for participants and their agents. We have rules and a contract in place to address IDX access. What we didn't have in place were rules and a contract for RETS access. Most third party vendors want the RETS access but since we haven't implemented any rules they have been denied. In May we put together a contract ("Bowered" it from a third party vendor and modified it to fit our association) and had the contract approved by our BOD and the Association attorney. The MLS Department has put together a modification to the MLS Rules and Regulations and are sending them to the BOD next month. Once all this is in place then we are in a position to allow third party access to the MLS. By the way, the contract is specific as to what the third party vendor can or cannot do with the MLS Data. Selling the data to another organization is strictly prohibited.
