Will having multiple websites increase my search engine traffic?

It's not uncommon for people to think that having multiple websites is an important aspect of search engine traffic. I disagree with this idea. A new website or blog should only be created if it makes good business sense. Quality search engine traffic can be achieved just as easily with one website as it can with multiple.

I have notice agents creating muliple blogs with no real content and getting results.

Hi Steve,

Can you give some examples of this? Are you seeing the results on Google or other search engines?

I asked Brian the same question. He answered that he did not see great value in them.
However, I have heard that there is one Broker in San Diego, who has Multiple web sites and get mucho leads from them for REOs. He keeps the good leads for himself and sells the ones he doesn't want to all these other entities, who then sell them to Agents over the Internet. I think there is an Ethics issue here. What do the rest of you think? Maybe he is just a smart business man.

Will multiple websites help get found in Search Engines? Absolutely! The more the better.

BUT...they need to be sites that get high rankings too.

I have around 15 websites but the real goal of my multi-site strategy is to get my Top 2 sites get better placement in the SERPs. Last month, my SloCountyHomes.com site received 8045 referrers from search engine lookups. My LocalLinks.com site had 5695 referrers. They are optomized for different search terms and show up in different SERPs.

I have spent a lot of time on the sites to get them to where they are and it's finally paying off. My business model is a bit different than the San Diego reference. My business is 100% Internet and the leads I get I refer to agents on my Team. I do the techie piece of the overall service to clients and my team does the personal service. I also help them on how to systems to manage leads as I do a referral on the leads so if they don't close them, neither of us get paid.

It could make sense if you want to place the primary keywords into the domain names of each site. To my benefit, I created a domain name years ago for my website, which is geared toward new homes in Georgia, that had my main keywords separated by hypens (georgia-new-homes); so, all I have to do is create webpages that are more specific to local communities, like Alpharetta Georgia new homes, without the need of addition websites. My domain name covers me well.
