Just curious to know if anyone is using WordPress? And if so are there any wp plugins that are valuable to you as a real estate professional?

Brian,

I'm liking these WP plug-ins so far:

All in one SEO pack, Page Links To, Thank Me Later, Yet Another Related Post plug-In, and XML Sitemaps... but I', a newbie too.

I just downloaded WP-Print but it doesn't seem to be working.

Hey Brian, You might have discussed this earlier but I am a big fan of TypePad. I do use WordPress but my understanding is that it won't run Java apps and that was something I wanted to be able to do. TypePad let's me do that. In fact, I've shut down ALL of my websites and switched over entirely to the blogging format. Whether, WP or TP, I can change things on the fly...it is SO much easier to maintain than a traditional HTML based website.

Hi Buddy,

Can you give an example of a Java apps that won't run on Wordpress?
I haven't used TypePad but it sounds like it's worth checking out.

There is a widget at WidgetBox.com that I just love that calculates mortgage payments. Here is what it looks like in a WordPress blog: http://trippanderson.wordpress.com/mortgage-rates/

And here is what it looks like in my TypePad blog:

Seems like a lot of the widget that I like at WidgetBox are java.

Hi Buddy,

It appears Wordpress is parsing the javascript code so that it is displaying as text instead of being used as computer code. When you see the text

if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget('fda096f3-c507-43ed-9b42-d10b03c0ed4e');

you know there's a problem. There's a way to do this in wordpress but its a bit more involved that just creating a blog post. I'll elaborate on this at a later time.

It's a nice clean looking calculator. Also, you want to distinguish between javascript and java. The widget you are using is javascript.

Brian,

Like I would really know the difference but that's beside the point. You can see why I prefer TypePad. Nothing wrong with WordPress, I thinks it's great, TP just works easier for me and what I am trying to accomplish.

BTW: what is the difference between javascript and java? Learn me some new stuff, my man.

Java is a compiled programming language which can be used to create stand-alone programs. JavaScript is a scripting language, ideal for small programs used from within Web browsers. JavaScripts script can't run alone, without the browser, the way a Java program does.

Buddy,

I pasted the same widget into two of my WordPress blogs and it displays properly.

The reason that the widget doesn't display properly at

http://trippanderson.wordpress.com/mortgage-rates/

is because the code was apparently not properly copied to the WordPress page. The script element, "<script... >" was omitted from the code placed into that page. You have to insert the entire code copied into the HTML view of the page content or blog post.

Hope that helps.
