" I could not agree with you more . I have been in this business less than a year, and I am struck by the lack of professionalism shown by many agents. It isn't rocket science, however a little research+ honesty goes a long way. Treat your customers the way you would like to be treated and your business cannot help but grow."

John, Good luck in your new real estate career. Starting off on the right path (even though the market is difficult), will certainly pay off in the long run. By the way, I love the Princeton, New Jersey area. I grew up on the shore in Margate, N.J.

My Best,

I think that in the face of the backlash that we are getting with the mortgage industry, it is more important than ever to provide SERVICE!  There has been local editorials basing our local REALTORS saying that some pushed people into homes that they knew the buyer could not afford along with the mortgage company that told them they could always refinance in a couple of years.  There is a public perception that we as an industry are just out to make a buck and move on to the next one.  It is just common sense that we would demonstrate the professionalism that is expected of us.   Raising the bar is essential to our survival in the public's eye.  You are absolutely right that it takes very little to be a REALTOR in comparison to other businesses.  Weeding out the ones that do it part time or the ones that are just chasing a paycheck is a must.  Raising the cost of doing business or the continuing education required to stay in business is the only way to make that happen.  Thank you for being honest!  I too have walked away from deals where the banker was trying to force the buyer into a payment that they did not feel comfortable with and I see now that those homes are foreclosed.  Being honest will never get you into trouble!  Karen

Yes, I agree the current banking crisis does have a negative backlash to REALTORS. As you pointed out, it is even more important right NOW to rally our national leaders in our industry to impose stricter guidelines upon licensees. In order to obtain and keep the "privilege" of being a licensed real estate agent, being a member of our National Association of REALTORS, and our and state and local organizations, should require a much higher standard then current regulations provide.

This has been my mantra, and it should be in the minds of my fellow professionals as we continue to strive for tougher criteria to get into, and stay in our industry.
