Gogebic Community College contributes to American Nordic Skiiing |
Gogebic Community College-Nordic Ski Team formed as stepping stone to NCAA level skiing.
Will Andresen, a Community Resource Development Educator with Iron Country's UW-Extension played an instrumental role in forming the new Cross Country Ski Team program offered at Ironwood's GCC. He's been a coach with the community Gogebic Ski Team and will now be the team coach at GCC.
Mr. Andresen was recently interviewed by FastSkier.com, the nation's most popular on-line magazine for cross-country skiers. I won't recap any more of the article here, just click on the link below to read all about the new program.
Oct 28, 2009 - There are a variety of good reasons for implementing nordic programs at junior colleges, but not a variety of options. In adding a nordic ski team to their program, Gogebic College may be the first junior college with a fully funded nordic ski team.
If you're looking for something to do this winter (spectator, not participant!) check out the tentative schedule of Nordic Ski Events at the GCC website: http://www.gogebic.edu/athletics/nordic.shtm
Don't forget about the new SISU Ski Fest scheduled for January 9th either; GCC's ski team will be there. This event features a Nordic ski marathon, half marathon and Taste N Tour event. Visit the races' website at www.SISUSkiFest.com for more info about the race.....and, if you think there's not much interest in activities like this just google "sisu ski +ironwood" and see all the sites and facebook links about it!
