GROUND WORK BEFORE HOME SHOPPING
Buying a home is expensive.
Assess your finances. Do you have cash for down payment and closing? Can you afford the mortgage, taxes and insurance? Get as much of the work done with a lender as is possible at this stage. This helps to know how much you want to spend and to get a jump on the paper work.Your personal situation will determine the best kind of loan for you. Determine your housing needs.
Your home should fit how you live, with spaces and features that appeal to the whole family. Before you begin looking, make a list of your priorities - things like location and size. Should the house be close to certain schools? your job? to public transportation? How large should the house be? What type of lot do you prefer? What kinds of amenities are you looking for?
Establish the minimum
requirements and a 'wish list.' Minimum requirements are things that a house must have for you to consider it, while a "wish list" covers things that you'd like to have but aren't essential. Chris will help you to 'refine' these as you actually look at property on the computer.
Go out and look
over all the communities offered in Southwest Florida - both resale and brand new homes. This will help you to know where you want to live. This website has much information on all the places to live.
Look at communities that will allow you to best live your daily life. Some people choose communities based on schools. Do you want access to shopping and public transportation? Is access to local facilities like libraries and museums important to you? Do you prefer peace and quiet of rural communities? When you find places that you like, talk to people that live there. They know a lot about the area and will be your future neighbors. Pick a neighborhood that you feel comfortable in.
