Dec. 14, 2007 - ECO Freindly Place in Las Vegas

The Springs Preserve

A really cool place has been created in Las Vegas. Called The Springs Preserve, it is dedicated to being green and helping to educate. It is so much more though it will be the new home of the Nevada Museum when construction is complete. It has gardens (yes things do grow here) and winding trails. It has a design center called the Desert Living Center containing a design lab, inside outside gallery, and a sustainability gallery. There is a place called Origin Experience this contains live exhibits, special exhibits, and a place called New Frontier for the kids that is very innovative. This is a great place to visit when in Las Vegas especially if you have your children with you and need a place to take them away from the strip. Tickets will not all that inexpensive, the experience is well worth the money. Prices are a little less expensive for Nevada residents so if you are visiting some one that lives here bring them along.

Nov. 19, 2007 - Why I live in Las Vegas

The Beauty of it all

When I came to Las Vegas, it was to get out of the snow and the cold. I was not disappointed but I did not know how much I would really enjoy it. Now don't get me wrong it can get cold and we occasionally freeze but for the most part I can sit outside with my mom and watch a beautiful sunset. There are also certain flowers that do really well here, Roses, Zinnias, and Geraniums. I see the snow and cold going on in other places so I took some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

My neighbor's roses, it looks like an English tea garden

Another angle also showing the white roses

My Geraniums

My Zinnia's

There are more plants than just these but until it freezes these flowers will stay beautiful and if it never freezes this year I will have color all winter long. How cool is that?

Aug. 19, 2006 - Twilight at the Oasis in Nevada

If you look close in front of the Nectarine tree you will see a tiny bunny.  All summer she would come and eat the fruit, and then it was gone.  For the last few weeks we have put out fruit and she has come to look for us in the evening. We keep putting the fruit just a little closer every evening and someday maybe someday she will let us pet her???  I think the geraniums look nice too.

The is a bird called a  Great-Tailed Grackle.  I guess they are really considered trash birds but they are so funny to watch.  The male of the species is a polygamous and very stuck up.  When there are two males in the same area, they strut around with their beaks up in the air.  We feed them bread and they come and dip the pieces in the water fountain.  The babies are the funniest, they squawk and squawk until their mother stuffs something in their mouth.  She is trying to teach them how to get their own bread and dip it.

This is a baby male, even as a baby he is bigger than his mom.  He is smart though, at least he learned how to dip his bread, not all of them are this brilliant.

My mom and I live on the golf course in Sun City Summerlin.  We have a beautiful view of the mountains.  Twilight is my favorite time of the day.  All of the harshness of the day melts away and a softness lays over the golf course.  Then we have beautiful sunsets that have after glow all across the valley.  AAAAWWWW twilight in the desert.

May. 2, 2006 - Stop to smell the roses

You would never think that roses would grow in this desert.  Well I am here to tell you that roses do very well in Las Vegas indeeed.

Garden Walk                                        Garden Walk

America's Choice                                 SEAFOAM

They bloom in the spring and if they are cut down well they will bloom in the summer.  If you cut them again they will bloom in the fall.  Then if you cut them way down, they will be beautiful again in the spring.  Go figure how roses can be beautiful in the desert.  BUT they are!!!!
