Dec. 20, 2006 - Joeann Fossland Visiting for Web Womens Giving Circle
We are happy to have a special guest in Las Vegas today, Joeann Fossland, a Master Certified Coach, a national speaker on the real estate circuit, and one of the country's Top 10 Real Estate Bloggers. Joeann is the founder of the Web Women Giving Circle and is on a whirlwind vitual blog tour to raise money for CARE for humanitarian relief.
What difference can just a small donation make?
Joeann Fossland : Here are some examples of how the donations can make a huge difference in the lives of others:
- $50 can send an Afghan girl to school for a year
- $125 can train a woman in Nepal to teach maternal and child health in her community
- $600 can keep 10 girls in Sudan in school and teach them about AIDS prevention
- $1,000 can provide a day's supply of emergency rations to 330 families
- $9,000 can pay for construction of a reservoir pond for a village with 1,000 people
How can I help if I can't afford to contribute?
Joeann Fossland: While even a contribution as small as $10 can help, if that won't work for you, there are other ways you can make a difference. The premium packages are a business expense and contain valuable tools to help your business. For just $20, real estate agents get a business plan, a website, a great book on selling HUD homes and more. If there is no business budget either, sharing with others about the premium packages is a great help to us. Send an email to everyone in your office, your company, your MLS. Or a note to your friends asking them not to buy you more stuff this holiday season but to make a donation to CARE. Please ask them to use this link so the Giving Circle gets credit for the donation.
Additionally, we have a special affiliate relationship with Amazon so that a portion of each sale made through our web site is donated to CARE. Consumers and real estate agents are both able to make purchases there with the knowledge that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to CARE. When we see what is happening in the world we really can't afford NOT to help!

Dec. 12, 2006 - A Bump in your Travel Plans
Why do airlines overbook their flights?
There are three reasons for overbookings. 1. A smaller aircraft had to be put in than anticpated. 2. Weight restrictions from the FAA due to weather, heat, or other conditions and 3. because of historical data the airline thinks a certain % of passengers are not going to show up.
Booking over capacity allows an airline to offer more flight options, with more affordablity to more customers. An airline uses very sophisticated forecasting to estimate no shows. Some figures I saw from one airline stated that they are usually off only by about 140 passengers a day out of more than 110,000 passengers. Of those 140 85% took the offered incentives and went later, sometimes in first class.
If you are a volunteer, WHATS in it for YOU? Being a volunteer will get you to your destination sometimes only a couple of hours later and you will probably get a voucher for enough to pay for another trip. If it is the last flight of the night you would also get food vouchers and hotel accommodations. So really it can be a good deal to be a volunteer and if your plans are flexiable, let the gate agent know ahead of time that you can volunteer. It will be much appreciated and take some of the pressure off of them.
What if you HAVE to be there? Get seat assingments and check in as early as possible. Many airlines now allow you to go on their website and check in 24 hours in advance. It does make a difference especially if you are waiting for a seat assignment.
Happy Flying.

Dec. 11, 2006 - Follow up To Jimmy Hoffa Story
What happened to the body? Why was Jimmy killed?
When Jimmy got out of prison, he announced that he wanted his job as Teamster president back, telling Union members he was not guilty when they sent him to prison and he was not guilty now. I will not be remembered as being controlled by the mob because I was not. He went after the job even when the mob told him to backoff.
The mob was concerned that Jimmy might reveal the connection between Teamster loans to Las Vegas Casinos and the money being skimmed off the top from those casinos. Hoffa had to go.
A few weeks before his death Jimmy came to Las Vegas to meet with his long time lawyer Morris Sheker and casino owner Moe Dalitz. Both of whom had gotten Teamster loans of their own. Jimmy agreed to sit down with his biggest nemesis Tony Provenzano to work out their differences. They were suppose to meet at the Red Fox restaurant in suburban Detroit. Hoffa insisted that his trusted friend Frank Sheerhan be there to back him up. Sheerhan a mafia hitman took most ofhs orders from Russell Bufalino.
So the mob chose Sheerhan to do the hit. Sheerhan states you don't say no or you will be dead. It was a matter of carrying out the hit or be killed himself.
Sheerhan says he was one of three men to pick Hoffa up that day. He told Hoffa the meeting had been moved to a house a short distance from the restaurant. The house was on Beaverland street. So Hoffa got into the back seat. Arriving at the house Hoffa walked into the house with Sheerhan behind him. Sheerhan put two bullets in the back of Jimmy's head.
Sheerhan says the wholethings wasover in an hour. No one started looking for him until 6pm that night and by then he was ashes.
Frank "the irishman" Sheerhan was a Teamster offical and Jimmy's friend, and a Mafia hitman. Below is part of a confession that Mr. Sheerhan told to Charles Brandt.
Mr Sheerhan said that it was he who gunned down Hoffa in a house in Detroit.
Charles Brandt: How many shots were fired at Jimmy?
Frank Sheerhan: Two
Charles Brandt: You were the shooter?
Frank Sheerhan: That's right
Charles Brandt: What happened to the body?
Frank Sheerhan: Took the body to an incinerator at a funeral parlor. Friends of the Detroit connections.
Charles Brandt: What happened to the blood at the house?
Frank Sheerhan: There were "cleaners" there to take care of that.
According the Sheerhan two men were waiting inside of th house. Tom and Steve Andretta, they were the "cleaners" They bagged Jimmys body and then he was taken to the funeral parlor. They then cleaned up all the blood. Steve Andretta died a few years ago, but Tommy now lives in Las Vegas in a quiet neighborhood.
It would have been very easy in 1975 to dispose of a body in this manner. You put him in a box, the box is sealed and an hour after it is put in the ovens it is gone. No trace of Hoffa is left to be discovered.
No one was ever convicted for Jimmy's murder, but the Department of Justice prosecuted more than 30 mob figures for other crimes uncovered during the Hoffa investigation. Everyone link to the case did time for one crime or another including Frank Sheerhan and Las Vegan Tommy Andretta.

Dec. 11, 2006 - Looks like Hoffa is not between the goal posts
Jimmy Hoffa and Las Vegas Connections
For more than 30 years the disappearance of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa has remained a mystery. Oh there have been rumors and Elvis like sitings but nothing has ever come to fruition. Even last spring they dug up a Michiagn farm looking or his body. For as long as I can remember the rumors abound that he was buried between the goal posts at Giants Stadium.
A new book out called "I Heard You Paint Houses" by Charles Brandt. Brandt was Frank "the Irishman" Sheerhan's long time friend and lawyer. Sheerhan said you don't just say your going out to whack some guy, you say you are going to paint a house. (blood on the walls maybe?) Sheerhan killed people for mob boss and kingpin Russell Bufalino 25-30 hits in all.
Dying of cancer, Sheerhan told his story to Brandt. The story of Jimmy Hoffa and the day he died, how it happen, why it happened and what happened to Jimmy's body.
You might say that the murder of Jimmy Hoffa began and ended in Las Vegas. Hoffa was killed because of mob activities on the Las Vegas Strip, and it is likely the only person still alive with personal knowledge of Jimmy's death is someone who lives in a quiet neighborhood in Las Vegas.
It is said that Hoffa was not controlled by the mafia, but he was beholden to them. They were instrumental in helping him land the Teamster presidency. When Jimmy went to prison, his successor Frank Fitzsimmions was under Mafia control and did what he was told. Making sure that the loans from the pensions were available for the Las Vegas casinos. Hoffa was a threat to that and in July of 1975 he vanished forever.
Stan Hunterton of the Detroit Strike Force ran up against a brick wall, they knew he had gone to a certain restaurant and picked up in a certain car supposedly to attend a meeting with Mafia figures Tony Giacalone and Tony Provenzano and that is where their trail went cold. Hunterton and his team were sure that it was a mob hit and during the investigation they sent to jail over 30 mob figures for crimes unrealated to Hoffa. Even Frank Sheerhan who went to prison for 32 years for racketeering. He always was the prime suspect but never broke under their investigation. The team had the car and forensic evidence from the house, but could never break anyone to tell them what happened. Hunterton does say that the confession fits pretty much what they felt happened.
So what did happen to Jimmy's body?
