Group OrganizerDon't let to much time pass before upgrading to the latest Wordpress version. It is much easier to do a incremental upgrade than to do one where the new version is several versions ahead of the one you are currently using. To run wordpress all you need is a web host that offers php and mysql.
Wordpress is very popular. The New York Times, CNN, and the Wall Street Journal have all used the Wordpress software.
Group MemberWordpress also offers a free blog publishing application at www.wordpress.com . It doesn't require you to have your own webhost. However, you aren't going to get the same benefits from the free service as you are with your own webhost - URL.
Group OrganizerGreat point. if you want to try out wordpress www.wordpress.com is a great place to start. If you become serious about blogging I recommend looking into getting your own hosting.
