The requirements for wordpress can be found at http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

The url gives the following sample letter that you can send your web hosting company to see if wordpress is an option. I've pasted the letter here.

I'm interested in running the open-source WordPress <http://wordpress.org/> blogging software and I was wondering if my account supported the following:

PHP 4.3 or greater
MySQL 4.0 or greater
The mod_rewrite Apache module
