May. 18, 2009 - Niña & Pinta Leave St. Augustine - May 18, 2009

The early bird may get the worm, but I was very fortunate this morning to capture the Nina and the Pinta as they were leaving St. Augustine. It was a little before 6:30 this morning when I noticed what I thought were shrimp boats heading back to sea. I thought they were shrimp boats as we had rough waters last night and thought they had come into the St. Augustine inlet for safe harbor, as they are known to do. Nina & Pinta By St. Augustine Inlet

Well as the two vessels passed the inlet and continued heading north on the Intracoastal Waterway, I realized what they were and leapt for my camera.

I would have taken pictures of the shrimp boats, too, as many of you know. But this was exciting to have them this close in the early morning hours.

Nina or Pinta

I knew they were visiting St. Augustine from May 5- 18th, but the days they just fly past. Don't miss my video posted below.

May. 11, 2009 - Scenic A1A Meeting 3 p.m. Today in S. Ponte Vedra

Many people in northeast Florida traverse Scenic and Historic A1A in St. Johns County from Jacksonville, through St. Augustine to Flagler County, especially on weekends. This past weekend was no exception with the most traffic I have seen in a long time. It was a challenge crossing A1A to enjoy the beach, but it was possible and well worth it. With The Player's Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, the Ancient City Crawfish Boil in St. Augustine, The Sunday Market in Vilano Beach, and Mother's Day, much was happening in our area. We had such fabulous weather, too!

Scenic & Historic A1A is the St. Johns County state scenic highway section of a National Scenic Byway, A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway(aka Friends of A1A). If you have been wanting to get involved in helping to protect, preserve, maintain, and enhance this beautiful byway, please come to our meeting today from 3 - 5 p.m. at the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association Building located at 2724 S. May. 5, 2009 - Chinese Drywall - New Disclosure Forms

Chinese Drywall has been in the news lately. According to HomePro Inspections in northeast Florida there have been no reports of Chinese drywall in Northeast Florida by any ASHI certified home inspectors in northeast Florida.

They estimate that as many as 36,000 Florida homes may have Chinese drywall. Most of these homes are located in the Sarasota and Palm Beach areas.

How do you know if you have Chinese drywall? Here a just a few suggestions.

1)       The drywall was imported from China between 2003 and 2006. Just to be sure any home built, remodeled or repaired after 2002 should be checked as there are some reports saying there may have been Chinese Drywall in Florida then.
2)     Chinese/defective drywall smells like rotten eggs due to the sulfur compounds used.
3)     Climb into your attic area and check the markings on the back of the drywall for “Made in China”.
4)     Hire a professional inspector.

If you are selling your home and it was built after 2002, you might want to ask a home inspector to provide a Chinese/Defective Drywall Clearance Letter. If you are aware that your home has Chinese/defective drywall, you and your real estate agent must disclose it.

If you are a buyer, purchasing a home in Florida built or remodeled or repaired after 2002, please ask your real estate professional about the “Chinese/Defective Drywall Addendum for Purchase” contract addendum and the modified Seller’s Real Property Disclosure. These forms were created by the Florida Association of REALTORS® (FAR) Law and Policy Department and are designed to alert potential buyers of the possible presence of Chinese/defective drywall and provide awareness on the availability of inspections or other options to evaluate any concerns.

Not all Chinese drywall is defective and not all defective drywall is from China. Research is still being done.

Your comments and additional insights are appreciated.
