Charlotte pride runs deep in area natives |
Proud to be a Charlotte Native!
I can't tell you how many times I meet folks from somewhere else and one of the first things I tell about myself is that I am a Charlotte native! I declare with pride and enthusiasm every time and probably look as if I expect to have someone press a gold star to my forhead for doing a good deed. It's true! I love being a Charlotte native (born and bred) and love sharing that with everyone I meet. I guess there's a part of me that is looking for a kindred spirit - someone else who will remember catching ducks at Freedom Park, going to the First Union building in the 1970's to have lunch and look out of our fair city's tallest building, having breakfast at the Townhouse restaurant and watching Hue direct traffic in the center of Queens, Queens and Providence. Now he's just a stutue! I love to tell stories of how my brother and I fished in the pond of Beverly Crest and how Mr. Hemby told us never to swim in there because the turtles might eat us - and do you know what? To this day we still think one of those turtle got our dog! It's true! The land around the Arboretum was in the country and we used to play in the woods, secretly ride the horses from the old Hunter farm, and a drive to Waxhaw was almost considered a day-trip! I love to talk about growing up on Roswell avenue in Myers Park, shopping at SouthPark (before you had to dress up), and the time we met Pistol Pete at the Charlotte Colesium. I think everyone has a sense of pride for their home town and I think I am one of the luckiest Realtors here because I get to share this with so many who are new to our area! What I know is that history can be more than facts, it is an emotion as well.
