2nd Quarter Stats: Utah home prices up, sales down

Posted at 9:10 PM, Aug. 17, 2007

Home prices in Utah are up from last year but sales are down, according to the most recent statistics from the Utah Association of REALTORS®. In the second quarter, the average sales price of $271,771 for a home in Utah was up 10 percent from last year’s average of $247,060. Excluding statistics from Park, which tend to inflate the average, the average price of $248,969 was up 2.64 percent from last year when the average sales price was $242,562. While the majority of markets saw an increase in their average sales price, five areas around the state — Carbon/Emery, Iron County, Park City, Wasatch County and Washington — saw a decline. With 11,740 homes sold in the second quarter, total state existing-home sales decreased 10.10 percent from last year at this same time when 13,059 homes were sold. Home sales were down in many areas of the state, but a number of markets saw their sales increase from last year including Brigham/Tremonton, Central Utah, Iron County, Morgan County, San Juan County and Weber.
