2nd Quarter Stats: Utah home prices up, sales down

Home prices in Utah are up from last year but sales are down, according to the most recent statistics from the Utah Association of REALTORS®. In the second quarter, the average sales price of $271,771 for a home in Utah was up 10 percent from last year’s average of $247,060. Excluding statistics from Park, which tend to inflate the average, the average price of $248,969 was up 2.64 percent from last year when the average sales price was $242,562. While the majority of markets saw an increase in their average sales price, five areas around the state — Carbon/Emery, Iron County, Park City, Wasatch County and Washington — saw a decline. With 11,740 homes sold in the second quarter, total state existing-home sales decreased 10.10 percent from last year at this same time when 13,059 homes were sold. Home sales were down in many areas of the state, but a number of markets saw their sales increase from last year including Brigham/Tremonton, Central Utah, Iron County, Morgan County, San Juan County and Weber.
