Those of you who know me know that I am usually shooting holes in things: it is in my nature to be a bah-humbug kind of guy. But I must tell you as a moderator and participant at Active Rain, that I am very impressed with RealTown’s latest software.
I must admit that I do not know how long it has been this good, because the older version did not impress me (bah-humbug blaa), and I had not been there for a while. But you simply must check out the new version.
Of course, fed by the RISMedia magazine (whom I have no affiliation with, BTW), Point2, Lowes, e-PRO and a host of other very well known names in the industry, Mike and Saul have really got a winner here – and I say that without having been the biggest fan in the past.
This is, in my opinion, perhaps the best attempt yet at matching consumers to REALTORS, not just vendors to REALTORS such as Active Rain.
The robust state of the art widgets and grouping and contact features are all there, the navigation is clean and intuitive, it does not hurt my eyes.
My prediction is that this platform will eclipse the others and become the dominant real estate-oriented source for community blogs with all the information that consumers and REALTORS need to buy and sell houses, and all the ancillary services.
If this sounds like a sales pitch, consider the source, and know that this is my honest opinion that I have offered up enthusiastically for free without any alliance, allegiance, compensation or any other reason to do so other than that it is the truth, and I wanted to go on record saying so.
REALTOR or consumer, the market will come back faster than you think, and you owe it to yourself to establish yourself at Realtown.com as soon as possible. I have invited my entire 579 subscribers to my WEB 2.0 group on Active Rain to do so, and suggest that you do to.
Happy holidays to all of you, may 2009 treat us all better!

- Jan 1, 2009 1:26:13 PMI have just begun exploring both RealTown and ActiveRain. I was on the old listserv with Mike and Saul, but when they switched to this format I just simply didn't keep up. I have missed all the useful information I received daily on the old listserv. This really does seem better. I just need to learn to navigate everything. I know I will be better informed for my efforts, it just seems to be a very time consuming projects. Do you know if there are any good simple getting started tips on RealTown?

- Jan 4, 2009 6:12:51 PMYes: invest some time here, start a group, the titles of the articles and posts become h1 tags: if you repeat the key words you covet in the title, the tags and the body, it will rank on Google withing hours, and do use the on-demand pinger!
Oh and one more thing: Don't be vain: choose a username with a message, nobody cares what your name is, they want to know what you can do for them!

- Jan 6, 2009 3:53:53 PMIsrael thanks for your post and backing of Real Town's Saul & Mike. I have recently come back to Real Town after getting me E-Pro a couple of years ago and after signing up for a Point 2 Agent website just a couple of months ago. I also am an active member of Active Rain as well as being an E-Pro. I dont know if Real Town does as good a job as Active Rain bringing Consumers to Agents. Active Rain has a huge network full of more than just agents and the new Listing Router on Active Rain lets consumers search agents IDX to search for properties as well as PPC opportunties as well on Active Rain.

- Jan 7, 2009 8:46:43 AMActive rain is much more esablished, Stephanie, because, as I said, this new version of Realtown is much superior to the old, but there are things in the works, including the iminent rollout of teh Communities, that are way superior, and I predict this will make it grow: this will also become the forums and local news area for RISMedia.com new site about to go live.
