Curtis Seltzer points to subprime alternatives that are making the difference to buyers of country properties.

Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Assn. of REALTORS, blames the subprime crisis as the major cause of a soft housing market in many major metro areas, and says that relief measures will lead to a recovery in the latter part of the year.

Foreclosure activities in April were at the highest level since RealtyTrac started to issue data in January, 2005, according to the company.
