Sep. 26, 2006 - 16. 5 reasons people leave their agents

Over the years we have all heard stories from people who had second thoughts after choosing an agent.  There are tons of sites that will give you advice on how to choose an agent.  But let's look at the top five reasons people are unhappy with their choices AFTER following all of that advice.  These reasons are from people who came to me after leaving their previous agent.

1) The Agent sat them down and grilled them for 3 or 4 hours and then wouldn't show them even one house without their signing an agreement never to see a house with anyone else ever again

2) Agent was lots of fun when they were looking at houses, but the buyer realized the seriousness of the situation when they were ready to make an offer, and the agent had no advices

3) The agent thought every single house they looked at was a good one worthy of an offer at full asking price

4) The agent was never seen again after the first day and another agent was "assigned" to them

5) They just didn't trust the agent

On the listing side, I switched listing agents once because the agent lied to me. I originally signed up with a two-woman "team." They got a professional divorce, and I was assigned to the woman that I did not really originally list with (I called the other woman originally). When I asked why they split, I was told that the other agent wanted to take the summer off. I later found out that that was a lie, so I put in a formal request to switch to the original agent. The liar later told me that she was sorry, but I simply do not work with liars, particularly on such an important transaction as the sale of my home.
