More Info on Tablet PCs - Mar. 12, 2007

I too considered a tablet PC, but because of expense and other reasons opted for a "normal" laptop.  I am pleased with the portability benefits.  I may be purchasing again soon and am wondering how much you are using the tablet portion?
Some, alot, none?
And can one fill in the forms on the computer (we use Zipform in the D/FW area) and then just use the tablet for the signatures?   Any information on ease of use and practicality will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Was the HP the most affordable tablet or were there other considerations that were more important than price that influenced your choice?

Thanks for sharing that information.  I've been in the market for a new PC and just started researching them.  Many months ago I met someone at the airport and he showed me his tablet PC and told me how much he liked it.  I thought it was great from what he showed me.  Reading what you've said and doing some research on it I think that I'll be getting one soon.  Thanks, once again.

The future of Tablet PCs? - Dec. 20, 2006

Bob, I disagree.

Tablets have been gaining market share with mobile professionals steadily for 2 years...things are slowing down now for two reasons; one it's a slower market there is no hurry to get something signed, and the second is that with Vista coming out...a lot of us are waiting to upgrade to the new system when it's released.

I use one, my home inspection company uses them, 4 of us at the office have one (out of the 4 with notebooks 3 have the same model)....I cannot wait to get the new updated version.

When I teach the Intro to e-PRO class, I spend about ten minutes showing off my computer and showing Realtors how I use technology.  I see a lot of jaws drop...you don't know what you don't know.  A lot of real estate professionals are too busy, and not at all interested in being progressive when it comes to technology...they are 3 or 4 years behind the leading edge.
That's ok by me, I like to be the leader ;)

Uses for The Tablet PC - Dec. 1, 2006

Bob Leonard wrote about whether the tablet PC will last, as the sales have not been what was expected and whether they will last. I think that many did not give great thought about who would buy tablets. Do they make a lot of sense for the average consumer? Probably not now as the price of a tablet is much higher than a comparable laptop. Writing on a screen would only come into play rarely for many consumers and certain types of businesses.

Where they are really growing in popularity is in the health care field. For example the hospital my wife works in has added tablet PC's into every operating room and emergency room cubicle, and to the doctors stations. They are now adding them to every room on each floor of the hospital. I used to be in the healthcare field still do some consulting. Many hospitals are slowly adding them for their staff. In the healthcare field writing is what they usually do. They can write the progress reports, care plans, and prescriptions. They can write or click on a choice. Much better than working with the old paper records.

I am a bit surprised that they have not been more popular in real estate. I use mine all the time. It saves me lots of hours and money. I use it to do my listing presentation and make it interactive. I write up offers and listings agreements right on the screen, print them out on my mobile printer, email them to my office and to the listing agent. When the other agent has a tablet we can do counter offers and email them back quickly and there is no loss in quality. I carry mine virtually everywhere. I find also that I win listings and business partially by having it. I have gone up against many of the top producers and beat them based on what I can do with the tablet. While other Realtors are running back to the office to write up an offer or fax an offer, I do it right in the field.

Overall the tablet is great for certain professions but not for the average user. Until the price is comparable to a comparable laptop they probably will not go mainstream. But after using a tablet I would never want to go back to the old way of doing business.

Is the Interest in Tablet PCs Dying - Nov. 30, 2006

Last summer I was very interested in a Tablet but decided to wait a few months to see how things shook out. Since then, the interest has seemed to die out. There are, for example, many fewer posts to this blog (2 in November, 1 in October, 1 in September.....but several in August & prior). Best Buy carried a tablet but has discontinued the item with no replacement. Dell carried a Motion tablet but you had to dig deep into their site to find it. A couple knowledgeable "IT" guys I know say that it was kind of a "fad" and give little credence to the future of that type of machine.

Now I'm concerned that, although the concept seemed good, if manufacturers have not seen any success, they will drop support and product/software upgrades.

Tablet PC -- What's Not To Like? - Aug. 3, 2006

I  just finished reading some information on the Tablet PC, I think it's a great tool for Real Estate.  I have 2 questions:  Who has one and uses it on a daily basis?  How did it change your life for the best for your business and personal life?  I want some feedback before I go out and purchase one.

Half the Brokers in my office use one!  What's not to like?  I can research MLS with my data/air card, type up contracts, sign them, and get them where they need to go, now*...Bottom line: more productive time, less driving to the office time.

Signing Documents - May. 10, 2006

Alisa,

I haven't been paying close attention to this subject but you have piqued my interest. Can you pull up your contract form in a program like Zipforms, fill it in on the Tablet, have buyers sign it on the Tablet and then print or e-mail? If so, there may be a Tablet in my future.

Polly Shaw

Anything you can create in Windows XP can be marked up and "signed" by using Journal Note Writer, which comes with the Tablet, you can make property notes in your own handwriting (or covert them to text) when going on appointments. It's very easy. If you know how to Print to make a PDF file, you can Print to Journal, sign, print as a PDF, and email to the appropriate parties.
