I bought a Tablet a few months ago after doing some research, to all who
are considering one read on....
Someone wrote: "It is nice to be able to sign contracts on your tablet, I mean it would be nice if it were possible. Unfortunately the software has not caught up with the tablet functions, so the fields in the contracts where the signatures go is not set up to receive input, so you can't sign on your tablet."
Although the fields aren't set up to accept signatures, the Tablet will allow you to sign the documents.
Here's how:
1. Prepare your document as you normally would in your computer.
2. 'Print' the document to the 'Journal Note Writer' printer.
3. When it comes up, have your clients use the 'pen' provided with the Tablet to sign and initial.
4. Save the document (just in case you ever need an 'original').
5. Now print the document as you normally would or print it to something like CutePDF Writer (www.cutepdf.com) if you want to send the document to someone else.
If you do have a program like CutePDF Writer, in step four above print the document to PDF format then delete the 'original'. Never send the original .jnl file to someone else as it is possible to 'cut & paste' a signature graphic.

| In Georgia, we're required to sign the original docs in blue ink (a throwback to when copiers couldn't copy blue). Can you set up Journal Note Writer to "sign" in blue, like Word(r) can print colored text? |

| Hmmm...
I use my Gateway 2610 for signing contracts, listings, etc. Not ALL the time, of course, but there are times when it is just easier (and more impressive) to fold the tablet over, hand the pen to the client, and then e-mail a copy (right on the spot) to the listing agent, etc. Color of the "ink" is not a problem either... I like blue.

I researched quite a bit myself. I decided to go with the Gateway tablet and upgraded: 14" screen that swivels around, added memory, 80 Gig hard drive, software, case with extra battery, in house warranty. I have been very happy with it so far, except it has is difficult to read outside. But I don't seem to need that very often. I got the Verizon air card and am happy with them also.
The journal and stylus are great, every thing worked seemlessly, I have not had to call for anything yet. Plugged and played. Even my i-Pod and Bose headset works great and Altec speakers for the i-Pod plugs right in also.
I even dictated some notes to myself with the tablet and its easy to write notes in the journal and save and retrieve.
I got the HP portable printer Deskjet 460 and it works great also.
Yes, these items are a little heavy, but when you are working out in the field you need them all, especially the keyboard, so I don't mind the extra weight.
I do need to learn the technique for the digital signatures. So, I would appreciate any input.
You can purchase one at Best Buys or you can upgrade like mine on-line. Their service was v ery good. I had only one dissappointment. The salesperson said I would receive an extra stylus in separage package for free andI never received. Have them put it in writing, I forgot to do so.
Wish someone from Gateway would get one to me as promised!
Because even so, I am always recommending Gateway to all those who don't want to spend their time researching.

Hello,
As a follow-up to my first comment regarding the Gateway Tablet Convertible, I am still very happy with this system and the stylus for signatures. No problems except with the McAfee, of course.

I knew couldn't be that difficult, just didn't know the steps to take. Thanks very much for your instructions, Dave |
