Friday, December 29, 2006 - Computing Disasters |
I'm going to start off the new year with a resolution to back up my computer. Regularly. Often.
Perhaps you can guess why.
I recently lost everything in my computer due to a hard drive failure. I've been pretty lazy about backing up and have only sporadically backed up selected data. My photos are all backed up (I think). A lot of my information is stored online which is wonderful, but trying to re-create and remember what's missing is a hard task.
So do as I say and as I plan to do--not as I've done. Backup your computer. Regularly. Often.

| I hope you follow through with your good intentions. Robin and I had a similar problem years ago, swore we would back up our system, and we still haven't backed it up. We have all kinds of neat ideas about HOW to back it up on a regular basis, we just haven't done it. Maybe your pain will motivate us? Sorry to hear your drive crashed. Happy New Year. |

Hi Arden, the good news is that I'm currently backing up twice a day. Since I use a laptop, I have to wait until I'm actually sitting near the external hard drive. I've found backup software that I really like a lot called GRBackPro which creates zipped files instead of propietary files that only specific software can read. It zips each directory separately. That means I don't need the program to dig around in my backups. I can hook the hard drive up to any computer and retrieve files.
Hope you and Robin are backing up regularly! |
