Free Money!

Sunday, March 1, 2009

The Factcheck Wire on Factcheck.org explains the scam behind these "Free Money" ads that are popping up all over the place, like on Facebook and the New York Times web site. Repeat after me, "If it's looks too good to be true, it's too good to be true!".

Pass this on to anyone you think might be tempted.

Free Book Download

For those of you who listen to audiobooks, or can listen to them on your MP3 player (Ipod or otherwise), or on your computer…

Audible.com is offering Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” for free.

Here’s the publisher’s description:

What are the habits all successful people share? In this audio presentation, Stephen R. Covey answers that question and teaches you how to make the Seven Habits a part of your life. Each audio system is designed to help you create an empowering center of correct paradigms from which you can effectively solve problems, maximize opportunities, and continually learn and integrate principles of effectiveness in an upward spiral of growth.

I read the book back in the late 80s when it came out and I think I’ll listen again. As I remember, it was excellent and instructive.

By the way, while you’re on www.Audible.com, you can download President Obama’s (I love saying that!) inaugural speech for free as well.

Giant Food Giving Free Prescription Antibiotics

Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Categorized in: Other Stuff

Article in today's Washington Post:

Giant Food stores will give free generic antibiotics to customers with a prescription for the next three months in what retail experts called an aggressive move in supermarkets' heated battle for shoppers.

While I hope no one I know needs to take advantage of this, it's certainly worth remembering over the next three months.

New Rules for the New Economy - Free

Ten years ago, Kevin Kelly wrote an excellent book called "New Rules for the New Economy". Here's an excerpt of what he has to say about the book:

The thesis of New Rules for the New Economy is that we are now living in an economy based on ideas and communication rather than energy and atoms. Further, this "new" economy has distinct laws or rules so it behaves differently than the previous industrial economy. To do well in the new regime, we need to grasp the new dynamics of information. I reduce the emerging principles to 10 guidelines, and suggest a few strategies for businesses based on each principle.

He's re-issuing it free, in its original form, as a blog posting twice a week. It's thought-provoking, timely and free! There is an RSS feed available.

Enjoy!
