Giant Food Giving Free Prescription Antibiotics

Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Categorized in: Other Stuff

Article in today's Washington Post:

Giant Food stores will give free generic antibiotics to customers with a prescription for the next three months in what retail experts called an aggressive move in supermarkets' heated battle for shoppers.

While I hope no one I know needs to take advantage of this, it's certainly worth remembering over the next three months.

New Rules for the New Economy - Free

Ten years ago, Kevin Kelly wrote an excellent book called "New Rules for the New Economy". Here's an excerpt of what he has to say about the book:

The thesis of New Rules for the New Economy is that we are now living in an economy based on ideas and communication rather than energy and atoms. Further, this "new" economy has distinct laws or rules so it behaves differently than the previous industrial economy. To do well in the new regime, we need to grasp the new dynamics of information. I reduce the emerging principles to 10 guidelines, and suggest a few strategies for businesses based on each principle.

He's re-issuing it free, in its original form, as a blog posting twice a week. It's thought-provoking, timely and free! There is an RSS feed available.

Enjoy!

First Time Buyer Credit

I've had several people ask me about the First Time Buyer Credit that was signed into law recently.

Here's the scoop. If you're a first time buyer, it's a great time to take advantage of this and of the really good interest rates that we're seeing right now.  Lenders say they're seeing an uptick in refinances.

Prince George's Sellers - Wonder Why Your House Isn't Selling?

Friday, October 31, 2008
Categorized in: Seller Tips

Chris Sicks (Washington Times) in this week's Charting the Market says the following:

Median sales prices were up in the District last month, while prices were down in Prince George's and Montgomery.

A primary reason for this difference in prices is the inventory situation. Compared to 2004, the inventory in the District is up 146 percent. In Montgomery, however, inventory is up 156 percent, and Prince George's inventory is up 402 percent. (Emphasis is mine)

It's worth reading the whole article. Be sure to take a good look at the chart -- the chances of a house selling in Prince George's County in 2004 was 96%. This year it's 8%.
