Stephen Foster Community Info

This blog was created to provide a place for information to be posted such as meeting times, agendas, and the like. If you have information about a community meeting that may be of concern to our neighborhood, please contact us.

However, if you have personal opinions or suggestions, this would not be the place to share them. Contacting the individual or setting up a meeting is most beneficial to all concerned.

We all are part of a wonderful community with many different people involved in making it a better place to live. With the number of issues that affect the Stephen Foster neighborhood we must work to inspire and motivate each other.

Coming together when we can with the purpose of bringing our community together is the only way we will make any progress.

Thank you all for improving and enhancing our Stephen Foster neighborhood.

SPRING CLEANUP

 

It’s time for spring cleanup and it’s past due for the Koppers Plant here in Gainesville.
 

The Koppers Plant has been a super-fund cleanup site for more than 25 years!  Let’s get together and find out what we can do to speed the process along.

Our History



In 1983 Neighborhood Housing Services, in cooperation with the City of Gainesville, began a revitalization effort in the community that is now known as the Stephen Foster Neighborhood. This revitalization effort had many facets, first and foremost was to create a sense of community. Neighborhood signs were posted, community events planned, and neighborhood cleanups scheduled. Recently there have been creek clean ups and Neighborhood Night Out walks to unify us with our neighbors.

Since property owners have a more vested interest in the neighborhood, programs were developed and funded to assist families with the purchase of first homes in the neighborhood. Over the years since the first family moved into the neighborhood, this program changed the face of this community. An area that was made up primarily of rental homes is now a diverse community of homeowners and long term leasers.

Currently we have received a $15,000 grant as part of the City of Gainesville Neighborhood Planning Program. They only select one or two neighborhoods per year for this grant money and neighborhood participation is the cornerstone of this project.
