Feb. 19, 2008 - City rejects GRU site expansion
City rejects GRU site expansion
The Gainesville City Commission voted 7-0 Monday night to not only reject the proposed expansion of the city's vehicle maintenance facility on NW 39th Avenue near N. Main Street, but also to direct the city manager to phase out the facility and the storage of construction materials there.
"The point is, it is a neighborhood and we're trying to make an industrial facility somehow fit and it just doesn't fit," Commissioner Rick Bryant said. "We need to move out the incompatible uses. We need to send a message that the expansion of the garage in that area is not a responsible thing to do."

Feb. 19, 2008 - SFN Traffic Update
Follow up on a complaint that was received at the last Crime watch meeting:
Emery:
I would like to request a survey of the sight distance on the southwest corner of the intersection of N.W. 12th Street & 36th Road. We have a request from the neighborhood crime watch via GPD for an all-way stop at this intersection due to sight distance and geometry. The resident has previously been cited by Codes Enforcement for sight distance code violations. In my review today, he has removed the affected shrubbery. However, given the geometry of the intersection and the existing vegetation (trees), I am unable to accurately determine if proper sight distance exists for northbound traffic utilitizing my normal methods.
The regulating FDOT Standard Index is SI 546 (2008 Standards). 2 lane undivided case as described at the top of SI 546 Sheet 2 of 6 and detailed further on SI 546 Sheet 6 of 6. As this is a residential street, we would be looking at the 30 MPH posted speed limit (lowest on the table) and for passenger vehicles.

YOUR PROPERTY VALUES ARE UNDER ATTACK!
Print out the PDF flier and pass them to your friends and neighbors.
Did you know that the expansion of the city’s already huge NW 39th Avenue industrial garage is still under consideration, despite our unanimous victory to stop this at a Development Review Board hearing last year? The falling housing market is bad enough! ....
DO NOT LET THE CITY MAKE THINGS EVEN WORSE FOR YOU!
On Monday February 18 at 6:00 p.m. your city commission will hold a special Public Meeting. The fate of our neighborhood will be decided then.
YOU ARE NEEDED!
Please come help your neighbors by filling the auditorium and speaking out against the garage expansion; or simply come and be counted. Your presence DOES MATTER!
Where:
City Hall Auditorium
200 East University Avenue
