Mar. 18, 2008 - inquiring minds want to know / 292 Lafayette is new

I have removed the content of this blog post, as it comments about the current listing of another agent. For information about why, check out end of an era for Manhattan Loft Guy / a new day dawns? from April 9.

Sandy,

I saw 292 Lafayetter at the OH on Sunday.  Very nice.  More rustic feeling than modern but very nicely done withthe renos.  While I don't love what Soho has become, I do have a soft spot for Lafayette street and in particular the Puck Building (where I first met my wife and then married her years later).

At $2.1MM this loft was a little out of our price range, but with the low maintenance we might eb able to make it work.  SO, I had my broker call this week to see where things stood.  He was told that they had 6 offers at or above ask and were going to best and final on Wed. night.  So we didn't even try.  So much for the Bear Sterns implosion scaring pople off.

catching up on comments, here, finally ...

Sheesh, Anon, you’re making me blush. I would love to hear more about the MLG Effect from readers, but let’s do it off-line. You can email me at sandyDOTmattinglyATcbhkDOTcom if you care to share some more on this fascinating topic.

THX for the Real World Report, Colgin. I find this section of Soho to be just-barely-Soho (i.e., so different from the quieter blocks of Greene or Mercer, and from the mad blocks of West Broadway and the cross streets), but maybe that is becoming a selling point as The Great Mall of Soho continues…. With this (apparent) rapid market success, I wonder if the 7W (unsuccessful) sellers will be back on the market soon.
