The Language of Love -- Fathers and Daughters |
I spend a lot of time working with words. Last week RealTown had a particularly good article about the power of words and communication, by real estate coach Joeann Fossland.
I love words. I have always loved words.
My Dad used to work with words ... he is a brilliant writer and editor and he struggles with words these days ... over the last eight years his body and mind have been out of synch ... it is a frustrating consequence of Alzheimers ... and a bitter irony ... this man who taught me to talk, to count, and to read and write shares utterances that are often hard to match with the intent of his communication.
I am spending the weekend with my Dad in New Jersey. My sister Linda (left) flew up from Dallas and we have been sharing ice cream and memories ... and yesterday we had a treat that neither of us was prepared to hear ... Daddy spoke some special words and this time there was NO mistake about the meaning of his words ... when we parted with him for the day we hurriedly wrote his words so that we would never forget them.
"No clearer satisfaction did any father ever have with the participation of two daughters like you."
We're headed over to see him again. Life is very good this weekend!

What a wonderful blessing for all of you this weekend. I am sure you have made him proud. That was one of the nicest gifts I got from my Dad-his unabashed approval!!! I do miss him!
Treasure your days together!
