Web Women Giving Circle Travels
To Peru with More Magazine and CARE

Jun. 7, 2007
Categorized in: Blogs

Peggy Northrop, Editor-in-Chief of More Magazine (left) issued a challenge to Giving Circles last year: "Let's raise $1 million for CARE!" Joeann Fossland said, "YES!" and founded the Web Women Giving Circle. They are shown here in the Andes sharing a lunch of guinea pig and potatoes with local hosts.Last week the Web Women Giving Circle traveled to Peru with CARE to see firsthand the effects of humanitarian outreach. Real estate professionals were largely responsible for some $24,000 in donations that the WWGC made to CARE in 2006. Real estate coach Joeann Fossland, Founder of the WWGC, kicks off a chronicle of events today in the group's blog.

The days ahead will carry stories that saw 10 gringas hokey pokey and chicken dance their way across Peru, from shantytowns in Lima to small hamlets nestled in the Andes. We were witness to remarkable human inventiveness, coupling investments and volunteerism to bring running water to homes that had none.

We learned that the human spirit needs no translation. Eyes and smiles speak a universal language. Laughter and hugs do not need an interpreter. The real estate industry made a connection with the world last year and the world is a better place ... we still have a lot of work to do ... enjoy the story in the days ahead.
