Are You Ready To Get Hooked?

Sep. 4, 2008
Categorized in: Just for Fun

September 1st is a day that many locals get excited about here on Pine Island.  We have the ability to go fishing throughout the year, and we have one of the worlds best fisheries to play in, but when snook season opens the boat ramps fill up quick.

The nice thing about snook is you do not have to buy a $30,000 boat to target these fish.  Now I am not discouraging this, and see absolutely nothing wrong with the idea, but I just want it to be known that it may not be required.  If you need an excuse I will be happy to provide a long list of reasons you will need said boat.  Snook can be caught right off of our local beaches with not much more than a Bass Pro fishing rod and some Gulp baits.  Again I can suggest a much more elaborate fishing arsenal if need be.  You can also start tossing baits around your own dock and have pretty good luck.

If you just had to buy that boat, and it is available, then you can set out in search of the vast expanse of mangrove canopies that shade the shorelines and create the perfect spot for big snook to burrow down and wait for their lunch.  Snook are not the most elusive fish, yet they are good at burrowing into the mangroves and prove a very worthy adversary.

Regardless of your method, once you hook into your first snook you will realize you are the one that just got hooked.  As he races off 50 feet of line with the flick of the tail he is looking for a structure to wrap around and end your attachment.  Will you be lucky enough to land him?  That's between you and the fish, but one thing is for sure:  You will be a snook fisherman for life either way.

Call me today to find out more on how to become a Pine Island Fisherman or Fisherwoman.

See you on the water.
