The sun is out, the weather is perfect, and the fish are biting!!!

Nov. 10, 2008
Categorized in: Just for Fun

It has become common for us to travel over 25 miles offshore for a day of Grouper and Snapper fishing.  Years ago rarely ventured that far out as the fish were plentiful within a few miles of shore.  Friday’s plan: fish close to shore and test our luck.  It paid off.

We started off the day trolling a few lines and quickly landed a Kingfish.  Lines went back out and a small cobia was soon in the boat.  Fishing was looking good yet we wanted to try something different so we began trolling for Grouper.  This did not prove as exciting as we hoped, but we were marking a lot of good ground along the way so we couldn’t complain.  We did, however, wise up after a bit and decided to anchor up on some of the bottom we had been seeing.  This is where our day took off.

While the Capt. was anchoring I dropped down a line to see what was around and came up with a porgy.  Not the most exciting fish in the sea but not an everyday catch either.  I was the only angler with a small bait in the water and it seemed like it was paying off as I started to reel in some large Snapper.  After showing off a time or to with my angling skills, I received some competition.  I was immediately put to shame when my Father pulled a Hogfish into the boat.  Now, I have never seen one of these fish before so I was really excited.  Luckily, our day was just beginning.

By the end of our time on the water we had caught handful of big snapper, 3 Hogfish, a big Red Grouper, an even bigger Gag Grouper, and a handful of other fish that will soon grace the dinner table.  The best part is, we did it within sight of shore.  Call me today to find out how you can make this lifestyle your own.
