Pine Island vs Cape Coral |
I have done a few BPO's (Realtors' version of an appraisal) recently and, while doing one on an Island property, had someone pose a question I found to be comical. Why can't you just compare the home to one in Cape Coral, Florida? I began to think of a story my neighbor had passed on just days before of a couple from out of town who said they could not justify buying an Island home when they could buy a newly built home in the Cape for $100K.
This is a valid argument coming from someone unfamiliar with our area so my response was simply: "you might as well compare Florida with Alaska." I am not saying one is better than the other, I am only saying that although Cape Coral is a 10-15 minute drive from our island, it is a world apart.
It is almost as if there was never a bridge to connect Pine Island with the rest of Florida. Cape Coral has been busy growing at an enormous pace. You can see a new shopping center, traffic light or housing community everywhere you look. It is a wonderful place for a family in the hustle and bustle of the world, positioning you with prime access to work, schools, and plenty of leisure. As Floridas' largest city (in size not population) there are miles and miles of canals for boating, fishing or much more.
Pine Island is the opposite. Our island is very happy to be right next to Cape Coral and Fort Myers because it gives us a way to jump off the island and into the shopping, nightlife, and other activities these cities have to offer. Once you are on "Island Time" however, the hustle and bustle fades into a distant background. You can hop into your boat and have lightning fast access to open water or hop on your bike for a casual ride on the new path that spans the length of the island. I know I keep telling you that we are untouched but I don't want you to think that we are made up solely of island resturants, galleries, and other hodgepodge stores. We do have a Dairy Queen and a Subway restaraunt if you start to miss the chain food world but remember that it is run by Islanders so...
I guess my point is this: I know there are stories of brand new homes on the market for $100K, and yes they are real, but they are NOT on Pine Island. If you would like to go get one of those homes give me a call and we will go a lookin' but if you want the feel of Pine Island your in a whole other country.
