Tri-Cities (kennewick, Richland, Pasco) only metro in Washington state not in economic recession |
A new economic index, released yesterday, from Moody's Economy.com and msnbc.com shows that the recession has spread to 93 percent of the metro areas in the U.S. There are, however, 27 cities listed that are not in recession as of January 2009, including Tri-Cities, Washignton.
The Tri-Cities is the only metro in the state of Washington that is not in recession according to the Adversity Index by Moody's Economy.com and msnbc.com. Year by year and month by month, the list shows the metro areas that have slid into a recession, according to the Adversity Index by Moody's Economy.com and msnbc.com.
The index measures employment, industrial production, housing starts and home prices for 381 metro areas in the U.S. Each metro area is judged to be either in recession, at risk, recovering or expanding.
While most of the U.S. fell into recession in 2008, an economic downturn took hold much earlier in some metro areas, starting in 2005 in the industrial upper Midwest and the carpet-manufacturing areas of northwest Georgia. For more info: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29866657/
