We live in extraordinarily great times! --- P.S. They are only going to get better!
How do you feel about all the negative talk of the condition of the world today? If we were to make a list of major issues that our societies face: global warming, the homeless, the poor economy, our lack of morals, our poor education, war, and famine and the list goes on and on.
Most people would agree there are many challenges we are facing on our planet. But, those same people would also agree that just being alive is a challenge. It always has been and it always will.
From the time, the first man walked the on the earth, he has had to deal with obstacles that stand in the way of feeling better about our lives and ourselves. Feeling better is the main reason we do anything in life, no matter what we are trying to accomplish, we do it because we want to feel better. It is our nature as human beings to run to avoid pain and to race toward pleasure.
That is why I am challenged by how much the media and our governments focus on the negative of the human experience. They seem preoccupied giving an overall dark portrayal of us as a people and the condition of our lives.
The media has become a machine that sensationalizes the bad and trivializes the good. It pains me and gives me no pleasure to hear and see all the gloom and doom. That is why, I choose to focus on the fact that we live in the best times ever in the existence of life on earth.
Think about it. When in time have so many had so much? I challenge anyone to go back 30 years or even more, name a better time to be alive. Show me a time when there are so many people who live so free with so much hope and so much love, wealth, and opportunities. Tell me this time, I do not believe that you can find one, for all I can see is the greatness of yesterday and the hope for an even better day tomorrow.
The truth is that as a whole, we live in remarkable times. The best era that any man, woman, or child has ever experienced on this earth. Are there struggles? Can we find instances or circumstances where things are not so good and change is needed? Of course, we can. There will always be exceptions to the norm. There will always be the need to make or respond to change.
The idea to change something, to make it better, is nothing more than a response to our continued evolution to be better, to improve life, and to grow. Growth occurs when we look at the areas that need improvement, without discarding the positives on which we can build on, and then we choose to do something about it.
In general, we live in the best times of the history of humans. Think about it. Life is good for most, life is really not that hard today compared to the struggles that our ancestors had to face, compared to them, we have it easy. Just in 100 years ago we have gone farther, faster, and longer than anyone before us.
Yet, many in the media and politicians focus their energies and our attention on the negative. Listen to our political leaders as they call out to Americans about our troubling times today and the disastrous times ahead.
Day after day the media bombards us with stories of the depressing side of the human condition. Making it seem as these accounts are the norm and we are headed for tragedy, when in reality these disheartening reports are a very small percentage of the really good things happening everyday to most people in our world.
Those who try to motivate others into action by ignoring the many positives and raising so many negatives frustrate me. Why not instead, choose to look at issues, not as problems, but as challenges that create opportunities to do something worthy for our families, our communities, the world and ourselves. Decide today to look for the positive.
We must commit ourselves to live an enthusiastic life in the spirit of love and happiness. We must plan to give more than we take each day. If we all do that, we will always have more than we really need.
Start each day with a smile on your face, a bounce in your step, feeling good in your heart, clearing your mind of negative thoughts, and focusing on positive actions. When you do this, not only will others follow, but life will truly feel better for you and everyone around you. Regardless of what the media or government have to say, focus on the positive and think of ways to improve what we already enjoy.
