What other San Diego hikes do you like to take?

Probably my favorite is the Torrey Pines hike down to the beach. It's by far the most scenic hike around, and it's easy enough that I can take my girls with me. It's all downhill, then they get to play at the beach, then the uphill part to go back isn't too bad. I just have to carry the little one for part of the hike back. The last couple of times I went, you couldn't go all the way to the beach because of erosion problems. But they were going to replace the stairway soon - not sure if they have yet.

Another one I like when I just need a quick and easy hike, is the loop trail near the Mission Trails Information Center. Takes about 35 minutes to complete - so I go on my lunchbreak sometimes.

Has anyone ever done Iron Mountain (i think thats that name of it)? I have wanted to do that hike for years now but just havent. It's right off the 67 past Lakeside but before you hit Ramona.

Actually, about a month ago, I went on a hike that started in the El Capitan Open Space Preserve. I think that one may end up eventually hitting Iron Mtn, but I'd have to check out the hiking book I have. I only took it part way, because it is a really long hike, and very steep in places. But it's a great trail, very well groomed and very scenic - I'd recommend that one too, even if you're just hiking part of the trail.

Found my hiking book in the back of my truck. The El Cap hike actually ends up at El Cajon Mtn. The Iron Mtn hike is just a little further north up Hwy 67. Wouldn't mind doing that one sometime, but it says it's 9.5 miles roundtrip, so you'd better plan to make a full day of it.

Here's a link that says it's 6.63 miles roundtrip, maybe they started elsewhere....

I hiked up Iron Mountain a few weeks ago. It's very nice at the top, and there's a free telescope up there.

It was a pretty good hike to the top, maybe 90 minutes to get to the top. It seemed much faster going down.

I just googled it and a website said 6.63 miles, 4.5 hours round trip, but I don't remember it being that long. Maybe I took the kiddy route :)
