It's Not All About The Turkey |
We have a busy Holiday weekend coming up. Lots of friends and families like to gather in Ocean City, Maryland to celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact, the longer I live here, the busier our "so called" off season gets.
I think people just like to have an excuse to get together and have fun, and what's wrong with that? Nothing.
Sure we all know the story of the Pilgrims and the Indians, and the 1st Thanksgiving. But what I think it really means to most of us, is a four day weekend, travel, great food, and most importantly, picking the special people in our lives to spend time with.
Now I know there are those among you who say these Holiday affairs only create excuses for those obligatory family get togethers, and hey, since we can't choose our family, we may not like them all very much.
I say nonsense! You've got to have enough spine to be where you want to be, and who you want to be with, when you want to be with them. Life is just too short.
O.K. we can't do everything we want all the time. You might have to throw in an obligatory function here and there. But I say minimize the experience, don't let it ruin your day, week, or weekend. Half the battle is stressing about how awful it's going to be before you even get there. Forget about it!
All in all we are all beings that crave and need positive social interaction with others, and if eating turkey, wearing pilgrim hats, and stuffing ourselves with pumpkin pie satisfies those desires in us... we should all go for it.
Seriously though, I do think the Holidays are the greatest. We should place extreme value on the special time we get to share with those that mean the most to us. That's what it's all about in this life of ours.
Happy Thanksgiving.
