Discover Columbus has been fasting for months. No mention of food. Why? Because that's what all the searches were. Hungry people? Or restaurants searching for themselves on-line? I chose to believe it was the latter and had to be stopped...

So what's the big news that Discover Columbus is breaking a fast that started in May over? In time for Hanukkah this year... "White Castle Latkes Win Recipe Contest" is the headline of an AP Press Release. The 2007 winner and her recipe are from Missouri

I can't find anything about it locally on the Columbus Dispatch but maybe I am just no good at searching... Columbus based White Castle does not have it on their site yet either. The" 2006 GRAND PRIZE WINNER Enchiladas de White Castle® Burgers y Queso" is featured along with the rest of the 2006 Cook Off Recipes.

The secret to make people crave the latkes? The recipe "incorporated 10 chopped-up White Castle "slyders" - minus the pickles." along with the usual potatoes and eggs. The AP press release also says the second place in the 2007 is a recipe from Chinese Dim-Sun made from Sliders.

I am not a White Castle fan... I have had 'em. I don't crave 'em.

Oh and in totally unrelated news Cameron Mitchell Restaurants sold the Fish Markets (Columbus Fish Market and Mitchell's Steakhouse to Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

Disclaimer: I tried a slider when I lived in Dayton in the late 80's. I think I had tried sliders when drunk in college too ... Anyway I decided in Dayton in the late 1980's that Sliders were not for me....   There are lots of White Castle fans in Columbus and throughout the country.  White Castle is based in Columbus, I love White Castle coffee.

Congratulations to Susan, her official title is  "2006 fastest griddler of White Castle."

"Regional champs from the 12 White Castle operating areas met to compete for the title of Fastest Griddle Champion -- the best of the best when it comes to preparing White Castle hamburgers. The contest took place at the White Castle home office at 555 West Goodale Street in Columbus, Ohio. All hamburgers prepared by the Fastest Griddle contestants were donated to Faith Mission in downtown Columbus."

Based in Columbus, White Castle was founded in Wichita KS ( one of Columbus Ohio's cowtown sisters.  Coincidence?)
