Ohio Vote

Nov. 6, 2006
Categorized in: Ohio

Remember to bring ID with your current address on it to the polls in Ohio on Tuesday.

Info about voting

Take ID

On election eve 2006... I am still undecided about Issue 3.  I thought originally I was anti-gambling because... well I was brought up that gambling is evil... then a poll  / discussion here about a Columbus magazine article about a pie in the sky non-issue, should City Center become a casino??.. got votes but I believe they thought they were voting on Issue 3. Some of the discussion makes me wonder if letting the states surrounding us lure Ohio gamblers out of state is such a good idea.

Issue 3 Gambling in Ohio - Slot Machines at Race Tracks and two locations in Cleveland

Select an option:

Yes

No

Business First Columbus is calling the state level races:  "Final Ohio Poll has Dems winning governor, Senate races"    All I can say is thank goodness the commercials will be over. I saw a site with YouTube videos of political ads.  Why?  Hasn't everyone had their fill?

"An election is a moral horror, as bad as a battle except for the blood; a mud bath for every soul concerned in it. "  George Bernard Shaw

If you want some practice voting:

A non existant gambling issue... A casino in downtown Columbus

Issue 4 - Smokeless Ohio - supported by the tobacco industry - a constitutional amendment

Issue 5 - Smokefree Ohio - supported by the American Cancer Society

Best Search for local Homes - nothing to do with politics

Best columbus Mexican Food  - even less to do with politics

Confused in Columbus

Oct. 29, 2006
Categorized in: Ohio

It's the smokescreen - Issue 4 and issue 5

No smoking SmokeFreeOhio.com

 SmokeLessOhio.com

According to the media both issues 4 and 5 may pass and then there would be smoking in Columbus bars, bowling alleys and restuaurants again.  Issue 4 is a constitutional amendment.  Issue 5 is basically the smoking ban we have in Columbus extended statewide.

Joe Blundo of the Columbus Dispatch wrote:

"The situation would have been less confusing had Issue 4 been called Wheeze More Ohio, but I doubt that the measure would have polled as well.  I suspect we’re on the threshold of a new era in which any issue can pass, given the right nickname.  In fact, maybe someone should give the entire 2006 election a nickname. My suggestion: Snakes in a Campaign."

THE BIG LIE  By Dan Williamson of The Other Paper, October 12, 2006

"Joe Camel wants to trick you into bringing smoking back to restaurants. Polls show you’re falling for it."

Remember Issue 5 is supported by the American Cancer Society and Issue 4 is the tobacco industry.

Williamson of The Other paper also wrote:

"Less smoking is not the goal of Smoke Less Ohio. Any confusion about that can be cleared up when reading the Issue 4 campaign’s list of “coalition members,” including R.J. Reynolds, the Cigar Association of America, the Lorillard Tobacco Co., the National Association of Tobacco Outlets Inc. and the Retail Tobacco Dealers Association."

I am not a smoker and I have to say it has been nice in public places since Columbus and most of the suburbs have passed smoking bans. I do often go out "for a smoke" with friends at the office but I stand upwind from them.     I would hate to see confusion with the two smoking issues change things in Central Ohio.

Columbus Best Beer

Make your vote count at Ansheuser-Busch's  Original Beers site

How Ohio votes is once again important to the nation... Ohio voters will determine what specialty beer the Columbus Anheuser-Busch brewery will produce.  Or maybe the new beer is just going to be sold in Ohio?

"To view the Original Beers site, you must have Flash Player 7.0.19 or higher installed on your computer."

"You must be 21 or older and know your zip code to vote"  according to the Original Beer site.

Anheuser-Busch You need to be 21 to enter the beer pages here too,  the corporate website is beer, amusement parks and more.

Beverage World says:

"In a new twist on democracy, Anheuser-Busch is asking for Ohio voters to select the next specialty draught beer they brew in Columbus.... It's easier and far more entertaining than touch screens at your local precinct.

" Seems sleeping giant AB has gotten a wake-up call from the craft brewing movement, so in response, they are offering three up-and-coming candidates that sound fairly promising:

-- "Burnin' Helles," a bock style rich malty lager with German hop character with a higher than usual 7 percent alcohol by volume.

-- "Old Eye Popper" is a dunkel-style with German hops, caramel and chocolate malts, and campaigns with the promise to be both sweet and bitter, dark, malty and complex.

-- "Racer Snake Red" is an American-style amber that is both malty and hoppy. "

I can smell the Columbus Anheuser-Busch Brewery at home and office depending on how the wind blows.

Voting ends April 30, 2006.  Beer will be ready to consume responsibley at the end of June.

The winner of the poll of Columbus BEST Chinese Restaurant... whether or not it really is a Chinese Restaurant is ....Molly Woo's Asian Bistro.

Molly Woo's Asian Bistro is part of  Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.  Someone will have to tell me what a Pan Asian is.......   I can make reservations at Molly Woo's Asian Bistro and see for myself.

I keep writing Pan American ..... and keep calling the restuarant Maggie Woo's.. Chinese New Year dinner at Molly Woo's and  ice cream afterward at Maggie Moo's?

In order of  votes:

Molly Woo's Asian Bistro - blew away the competition

Asian Star Buffet -1

Panda Inn- 1

Golden China Express -1

Sunflower -1

China Way- 1

Golden China Express - 1

Second choices - Ming Flower was mentioned number two more than most of the first choice for "Best Columbus Chinese" Restaurants.. almost all of the voters that voted for Molly Woo's Asian Bistro said Ming Flower for their second choice.... Lazelle Road?  Just south of Polaris Mall - Molly Woo's?   Other  "Second Best Chinese Restaurants" included P.F. Changs, The Panda Inn, Sunflower. I believe all are north side of Columbus, Northwest Columbus Restaurants (where I hang out mostly, sell homes mostly..... ) except P.F. Chang's - Easton?

This Columbus Best Blog Best Chinese Restaurant survey was totally unscientific obviously..
