Blog Tour USA has been announced and Columbus is on the map.

Sellsius Blog is blogging across the US this summer from New York to San Francisco and Columbus is on the list of stops.

US MapEarlier on the Sellsius Real Estate Blog " This summer, we are hitting the road to promote blogging, real estate bloggers, real estate agents, Sellsius°, the Inman Bloggers Connect and more. We will start Blog Tour USA in New York City and end in San Francisco at the Bloggers Connect July 31st, zigzagging our way to visit all our blogging brethren.

Along the way, we will rendezvous with real estate bloggers, agents, brokers and consumers to celebrate our industry and each other— heck any bloggers from any industry are welcome to party with us."

Discover Columbus is a place blog

Jan. 18, 2007
Categorized in: Blogs

Columbus Ohio as a postcardNow they tell me!  Discover Columbus is a place blog not a real estate blog... no wonder!  Sellsius° Blog has an entry about place blogs and mentions me, Teresa Boardman in St. Paul MN and Brad Nix in Atlanta GA as place bloggers.

I thought I just wasn't a good real estate blogger.... No wonder this blog...when it was named Columbus Best Blog or since it's name change to Discover Columbus has always said something sorta like...

"this is not a real estate blog"

even when it is listed on real estate directories.... because it is about Columbus (Central Ohio... not just real estate... ) hopefully Sellsius° Blog will not revoke my Top Ten Women Real Estate Bloggers of 2006 title...  because it is a place blog not a real estate blog...   but I have been saying all along it is not a real estate blog.

Columbus bloggers if your blog is a place blog put it on PlaceBlogger.com  I can think of blogs in my Columbus blogroll that are place blogs.  There are three Columbus blogs listed on PlaceBlogger.com this is not one of them!  Discover Columbus is a Worthington Blog because of the zipcode but Lisa of PlaceBlogger.com says it can be changed.

Central Ohio residents you live where? Some confusing location examples:

  • My home is in the city of Columbus, I have a Gahanna zip code and my kids go to Westerville schools.
  • My house is in the city of Columbus, I have a 43235 zip code.  People used to call it West Worthington, the post office is called West Worthington, have people stopped calling it West Worthington?  I know I moved to a 43235 address just after it stopped being 43085 (years ago) and I had neighbors who did not want to use a Columbus address, they had had a Worthington address, their kids went to Dublin Schools... Kids in the 43235 zipcode go to schools in  Dublin, Columbus or Worthington depending on where in 43235 they live.  The school districts pre-existed the development in the area.  Columbus annexed... long story.
  • My home is in the city of Columbus, I have a  43065 zip code which is Powell which is in Delaware County but I live in Franklin County and my kids go to Dublin Schools... ( Some 43065 homes are are Worthington too...  I am trying to think of neighborhoods?)
  • My house is in Worthington Hills which is not in Worthington, it is in Perry  Township (or Sharon Township or I think a sliver is in the city of Columbus ... my kids go to schools in the Worthington School District
  • My home is in the Ballantrae subdivision in the City of Dublin but I my kids go to schools in the Hilliard school district.
  • My house is north of Park Rd. in Franklin County, my neighorhood is named Worthington Somethingorother, I am in the City of Columbus, my zipcode is Westerville and my house is in the  Worthington School district.
  • My house is in Highland Lakes in Genoa Township, but my zipcode is a Westerville zip code.  My kids go to Olentangy Schools....
  • The list goes on... and I am sure there are some I have not run into before.

Zip codes are not definitive in Central Ohio... maybe this happens in other places too... but I only really care about Central Ohio though... Local counts.

Sellsius° Blog has a list of other place blog aggregators too.

TOP 10 BLOGGER.jpg

A Columbus Best Blog 2006 Review before we get too far into 2007.... My blogging year on 'Columbus Best Blog', a RealTown Blog now named 'Discover Columbus'  was heavily influenced by Sellsius Blog naming me a Top 10 Women Real Estate Blogger 2006 along with Bonnie Erickson,  Joeann Fossland , Christine Forgione, Maggie Knowles, Ardell DellaLoggia, Marlow Harris, Claudia Wicks, Alma Dizon,  and Fran Bailey.

Maureen Francis is using the Julian calander as her excuse that she just did her 2006 review of her Michigan real estate blog.. MI Oakland County ...I could wait a few weeks and use the Chinese calendar too.. I just never thougth of doing a retrospective of my blog until Mo In MI did one.

'Columbus Best Blog'  had a year that was influenced by Sellsius° Blog, Zillow, Columbus restaurants and food, and other real estate bloggers around the country....

Bloggers what entries defined your blogging year in 2006? This is a meme to all RT Bloggers, "Tag you are it."  What are the best entries, the most memorable entries of 2006 on your RT Blog...don't worry if you don't have a lot of entries... do a 2006 retrospective.... just do it...

A meme (rhymes with dream) is a catch phrase representing a contagious idea that spreads virally in a culture, like transparency, Web 2.0, Long Tail or maybe unzillowable. The word comes from the Greek meaning “mimic”. In the blogosphere, it’s a game of topic tag. You answer the topic question and pass it on to others to do the same.

Carnival - "Step Right Up and Guess"

Oct. 20, 2006

ferris wheel'Who threw the chair?'

Inman Blog asks:
"could someone fill us in on the California Association of Realtors' technology panel in Long Beach earlier this week that one Realtor said, "almost reached a Jerry Springer-like" dynamic? Inman, Move's Allan Dalton and Zillow's Lloyd Frink were on the panel with CAR's Joel Singer."
--Jessica Swesey, Inman News

"Realtors cool to Zillow.com chief" By Jeff Collins of The Orange County Register (California)

"Allan Dalton bitterly criticized Zillow.com, likening the site’s trademark Zestimates of home values to a carnival weight and age guesser."

Real estate is local.  I first read about Dalton and Frink's exchange on California REALTOR® Roberta Murphy's blog, The RealView. I love Sellsius° Blog's doctored photo of Lloyd Frink as a carnival guesser.  Sellsius Blogs Carnival Photo (I am a fan..)  Note the room for an advertisement on Frink's collar?  Real Living has been an advertisor on Zillow since the beginning.  Real Living is a bit more web 2.0 than lots of real estate companies.   Real Living has Zillow on the website

I am not a Jerry Springer Show fan but I get the Inman reference to the sometimes Ohio politician and national talk show host.  I must have watched it waaaaay back when because the freak show with guests throwing chairs and punches immediately came to mind when I read Inman Blogs take on the panel discussion.... I remember hearing or reading The Jerry Springer show is rehearsed, staged...    I looked the Jerry Springer Show up to see if it is still on TV.  It is. Monday through Friday 9:00 AM locally  on WTTE channel 28. The show is in it's sixteenth season according to the Jerry Springer website.

According to Wikipedia, chairs don't fly on the Jerry Springer Show anymore:

"Since 1999, the show has adhered to a no-violence rule: guests can no longer fight, use foul language, or perform lewd or obscene acts. However, since 2002 female audience members are actively encouraged to expose their breasts for the cameras and are awarded strings of beads in emulation of Mardi Gras tradition."

Good to hear the Jerry Springer show has evolved... kept up with the times... they show that at 9:00 AM in Columbus, Monday through Friday?

All REALTORS® love Realtor.com and hate Zillow.com don't they?  Wouldn't it be easy if it worked that way?

I am not a fan of:

  • The Jerry Springer Show
  • WTTE TV in general but maybe I just don't watch it and assume it is all Jerry Springer Show all of the time
  • Realtor.com ...real estate is local use local websites to search ... great one is on my websites and blog... see the Search at the bottom of this page...  HER Real Living's search!

If anyone cares what I am a fan of.... in addition to Sellsius Blog and Roberta Murphy's Blog, Active Rain.com motherhood, baseball,  apple pie.... etc.

  • Real Living, I think it is smart to use Zillow on the Real Living website especially since Joel B on the Future of Real Estate Marketing Blog told me and the real estate world it was a good idea.
  • HER Real Living
  • Web 2.0.
  • Zillow?  I am not sure I am a fan but I like to play on Zillow ... check it against reality.. and blog about the UnZillowability of local real estate. I have blogged about it a time or two....
  • The National Association of REALTORS® (the distinction between NAR and Realtor.com and now Move.com that used to be Homestore.com is sometime difficult to understand.)

I sometimes read the Carnival of Real Estate...Zillow's weekly Carnival of real estate blogs....  I think  on Inman Blog this week..... wow... could it have been staged any better.....
