Pretend this black dot (bullet) has legs......
- I showed a property with acreage about 7:00 on Monday night... we walked the paths and got covered with ticks. I was wearing a long light colored skirt so they showed real well and were easy to pick off.
Driving back I was sure a tick was boring into my back. A strip search uncovered three inside the skirt but nothing on my navy blue t-shirt and nothing in / on my back. A shower for that creepy crawly feeling helped a lot.
Unfortunately two were found this AM. One on my elbow... and another at the sink where the the strip search was conducted. My car got sprayed this AM before I got in and the can of Deep Woods Off is in the car. I hate bug spray, mosquitos pretty much ignore me. Ticks seem attracted.
Did you know OSU has a world renowned acarology program? It is "an international center for research on ticks" (and mites.) I guess Acari are ticks, mites, spiders. Arachnaphobia?
"With a teaching and research collection of more than 150,000 determined specimens and more than 1,000,000 undetermined specimens of ticks and mites, our acarology program is world renowned and functions as an international center for research on ticks and mites. The broad representation of specimens makes it the finest teaching collection of Acari in the world. We identify specimens submitted by state and federal agencies, researchers and the general public."
From OSU - removal tips! All I really need to know about ticks for my line of work and being a dog owner. #5 is icky:
"Keep the tick alive for a month in case symptoms of a tick-borne disease develop. Place it in a labeled (date, patient), sealed bag or vial with a lightly moistened paper towel then store at refrigerator temperature"
Did you know the 12th International Congress of Acarology, to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from Monday 21 until Saturday 26 August 2006.
- I'm using the bullet above and this one to the left to signify a tick...Googling Tick I found some great scarey tick images on an LA website.... Ohio ticks or those I saw last night and the ticks I saw last time I took my pooch for a walk at High Banks Metro Park were just like those pictured on the LA site. Dots with legs.
I gotta share this image. Wow now I don't know which kind of tick we had all over us yesterday but the image makes me itchy. Local -I'm thinking they are American Dog Ticks?
Ooooh.... sometime I'll share my real estate flea story.... scratch, scratch, scratch....
