About Schiller Park from the Actors Theatre Company Website:

"The park, home to the Actors' Theatre's summer Shakespeare season has long been a focal point for the Geman Village Community. Originally called Stewert's Grove by the early settlers, the city bought these 23.5 acres in 1867 for the grand sum of $15,000. Stewert's Grove became City Park in 1891 it was renamed Schiller park, after the famous German poet, Friedrich Von Schiller. An impressive statue of Schiller resides in the park. "

"During World War I, the American sentiment had turned against all things German and Schiller Park was renamed Washington Park. Several of the German Street names in the area also were changed. After the war, the park's name was changed back to Schiller, although most of the streets did not revert to their pre-war names (German Village Society, 1992). "

"The park is now a well kept central location of German Village life. The recreation center, picnic areas, softball diamonds, fishing pond and stage for the Actors' Theater Company's summer Shakespeare productions, not to mention the beautifully landscaped gardens make Schiller park the jewel of German Village
. "

CoronaThe  Festival Latino! website says this is the largest Hispanic / Latino event in Ohio.

"Celebrate the diversity of Latin American culture on Columbus' downtown riverfront! Dance to the live sounds of the finest international and regional artists, taste Latin American cuisine, shop at the marketplace or play in the children's area. Food, fun, fiesta! "

Picnic in the Parks

May. 28, 2006
Categorized in: About

I learned a new acronym today.  PICNIC.  IT people think we (normal people... not IT people ) are PICNICs.   I love picnics.  Foget about work, it's a long weekend, those computer problems will be there on Tuesday....

Central Ohio in the summer means:

Picnic with the Pops

Schiller Park - Picnicing w/ Actors' Theatre

Ohio State Parks including nearby Alum Creek

Metro Parks

City Parks - Columbus

City Parks - Dublin

City Parks - Hilliard

City Parks - Gahanna

City Parks - Grove City

City Parks - New Albany

City Parks - Powell

City Parks - Upper Arlington

City Parks - Westerville

City Parks - Worthington

Liberty Township Parks

Orange Township Parks

Some communities websites say more about picnicing than others.

Worthington:

"Picnic tables are provided for family outings" in Indianola Park..... I am sure other Worthington parks have picnic tables too.

Dublin:

"Picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-served. Reservations are not accepted."

Info about 'PICNIC's'  shared by Greg Cremia of Re/Max Ocean Realty on a real estate forum.  I bet they have great places to picnic in the "outer banks" in North Carolina.

No mountains, no oceans but we have cows in Columbus.

P.S. I am working today... Old Worthington Open House  bring your picnic...

and remember Worthington's Memorial Day Parade.   10 AM Monday.   E. Dublin Granville and South on High Street.
