Dublin - Hot, Smart, Connected

Not just smart, Dublin must be intelligent!

The ICF which is the Intelligent Community Forum named Dublin to "Smart21 Communities of 2008." Dublin is a semi finalist... I think in January 2008 the list will be whittled down to the community of the year.

ICF seems to be a think tank for use of broadband and technology.

The ICF site says of Dublin, a suburb of Columbus:

"Dublin, Ohio, USA - The city of 40,000, named one of the "hottest places to live" has expanded on the network it created (DubLink) and has formed partnerships with a range of research entities, including the Ohio Supercomputer Center. It also boasts a successful new WiFi network. "

The ICF press release - Smart 21 Communities of 2008

Wonder who did the "hottest places to live"?? list and when... found it Money Magazine in 2005 before I was blogging and paid much attention to this stuff. Dublin has the honor of being named one of the "hottest places to live" on their website of course...

Columbus Tops US Cities List

Columbus I am having deja vu...  I would swear I blogged on this before .... but I can't find it on my blog.

Columbus and three other large cities, Washington D.C., *Minneapolis- St. Paul M.N. and San Diego are the best prepared for emergencies.   An article in the Canton Repository says:    "Only 6 cities, including Columbus, win highest scores for emergency communications"

The smaller cities  that join the list of cities that have adopted advanced emergency communicatons systems are Sioux Falls S. D. and Laramie County, WY.c. 2006 Columbus Best Blog

THe Canton Repository article also said: "The lowest scores go to Chicago; Cleveland; Baton Rouge, La.; Mandan, N.D.; and American Samoa. The report includes large and small cities and their suburbs, along with U.S. territories."

I am sure I read or heard somewhere that Columbus was tested during Red, White and Boom last summer.    When I heard about it on the news today they also said each OSU football game is also a test of the local communication...

*Minneapolis and St. Paul are not a city... but I guess for the purpose of the study they need to act together...

Did I imagine it?

I must be imagining that Columbus is on the list of the Top Ten Big Cities in the US that came out yesterday.  Why isn't that news in The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Business First, or the Daily Reporter?   I find the CNNMoney.com list in a bunch of other newspapers around the country (or am I just imagining that too?)  but not in any of the Columbus papers?

News Flash Columbus Business First announced yesterday that Mentor is the only Ohio City on the list... true of the 90 smaller cities in this list.  Not true of the 10 Biggest Cities in this list... or am I imagining Columbus there on the list in number eight? Or are there articles in the Columbus papers but I can't find them?

We're not number one on the list but Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron, Dayton, Toledo, etc.  aren't on the list at all.

Indianapolis, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Chicago and lots of other BIG cities did not make the tiny list of Big Cities.

Crazy?
