Greek Restaurant in Powell

Apr. 23, 2007
Categorized in: Best Food and Restaurant

Did you know? Melina Kanakaredes went to OSU for a year?  Was the first  runner up in the Miss Ohio pagaent? Grew up in Akron (I lived in Akron for a few years so I notice stuff about Akron too.)  That today is her birthday?

happy birthday cupcakeYou may ask who is  Melina Kanakaredes?  I am not that into celebrities.. it was the "a Greek restaurant in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Powell, Ohio"  that caught my eye... but she is on the CSI set in New York (never seen it) and she was on the show Providence.... that one I liked.

Personal info about Kanakaredes ccording to a Celebrity Blog*

"She and her husband own a Greek restaurant in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Powell, Ohio."

Greek restaurant in Powell???

Huh?  I was going to link to the Celebrity website until I Googled Greek Restaurant in Powell Ohio... everything on the Celebrity blog was word for word from Wikipedia... they just scrape it and post it on a website about birthdays with ads...  lots and lots of ads...   you can read all about it in Wikipedia... including the line about a Greek restuarant in the Columbus, Ohio suburb of Powell.....

Googling "Greek Restaurant in Powell Ohio" another directory or splog assures me...

"There are currently no Greek Restaurant Listed in this Ohio City.  Register and add yourself to the directory today ABSOLUTELY FREE by clicking here or on the link provided above."

I broke all the links in the sentence above.... I'll track it down...

Polaris New Restaurants

Apr. 10, 2007
Categorized in: Best Food and Restaurant

restaurant sign Sneeking over from Westerville to the Polaris area Friday evening taking a little big different route than usual it was surprising to see two new restaurants....Bonefish Grill and BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse.

I think I know about every restaurant before it happens.

Noticing Bonefish Grill and the new shopping center (strip) on the corner we started talking about when the Wendy's was sitting up there at Polaris all alone... then the Max & Erma's joined them...  How things have changed at Polaris.  Of course it is all over a number of years.

A recent Business First Columbus article talks about  Five New Restaurants at Polaris

Already there...

BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse
Carfagnas Kitchen (no link yet)
Bonefish Grill

offbeat Columbus (a blog) wrote about Carfagna's Kitchen I get the impression there will be a restaurant website...

According to The Columbus Dispatch Carfagna's Kitchen has been open since February 1, 2007.

Coming soon to the Polaris area according to Business First Columbus

P.F. Chang's China Bistro Inc.
Noodles & Co.

All are chain restaurants except Carfagna's Kitchen.  I saw the BJ's Restaurant on Friday night but did not even bother to say, I had never noticed it before... I get tired of saying it...

The new dining is all in the casual category according to The Business First Columbus article  but the article talks about a possible "white table cloth" addition to the Polaris area.... just what the Crosswoods area needs: "Along those lines, Mitchell's Steakhouse, is considering moving its Crosswoods restaurant to near the mall."  another empty restaurant...Of course there is a Ruth Chris Steakhouse and a Hyde Park Restaurant  to compete with Mitchell's Steakhouse to compete with ... and I can't think of a Steakhouse in the Polaris area.  High end, low end... any?

I noticed driving on Campusview yesterday that Fudruckers ...although certainly not a "white table cloth" restaurant closed up shop at Crosswoods....

I do know there is a new City Barbeque going in at Polaris, south of Polaris Blvd. on the west side of Sancus Blvd.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Blogging Ohio - Tom's Ice Cream Bowl....

Tom Barlow (we have determined Tom is no relation to Dave Barlow) of Blogging Ohio wrote of Zanesville Ohio's Tom's Ice Cream Bowl....Tom's Ice Cream Bowl is in Southeastern Ohio according to Tom's Ice Cream Bowl.  Thanks Dave... I mean Thanks Tom. Tom Barlow is not related to  Tom's Ice Cream either. Two Dips names Tom's Ice Cream Bowl: one of 10 Best Nationally!

 Tom Barlow said ....

"Tom's was recently named the #1 ice cream parlor in the country by the Two Dips Ice Cream Tasters."

I thought it was just the rating of 'dowab Junior Taster'  on Two Dips Ice Cream Tasters rather than a vote of BEST from Two Dips Ice Cream Tasters.  It turns out it is a list on another "Best" website,

America's Best and Top Ten - Best Ice Cream Parlors  from America's Best and Top Ten.

I've been to Tom's it is a great experience.  Cute as can be... but I don't remember the taste of ice cream, I'll just have to go back.

Also in  the Top Ten list:

Handel's, Youngstown, Ohio ....we have Handel's in Central Ohio don't we?

"ICE CREAM SEARCH Coming Soon! " good news.... I signed up for the Two Scoops newsletter....

I have to wonder if  the judges of the Top Ten list have been exposed to:

Ray's in Detroit MI metro area? Somewhere near Royal Oak? Southfield  MI area?
Graeters
Jeni's
Ice Cream at the University of Wisconsin Unions...made by the Ag. School... I have not eaten it in years, I gained a lot of weight in the summer between junior and senior year when I discovered it...Science Project... eat an ice cream cone a day for two weeks.  You gain weight.   I had to wear a room mates pants for a few weeks after the science project.

Tom's Ice Cream Bowl is a road trip... I don't think of Zanesville being Southeastern Ohio... I think of it being the eastern  side of Central Ohio... but I am sure Zanesvillians know where they are... it is such a neat place to visit!  A step back in time.... Time for a road trip!
