About Schiller Park from the Actors Theatre Company Website:

"The park, home to the Actors' Theatre's summer Shakespeare season has long been a focal point for the Geman Village Community. Originally called Stewert's Grove by the early settlers, the city bought these 23.5 acres in 1867 for the grand sum of $15,000. Stewert's Grove became City Park in 1891 it was renamed Schiller park, after the famous German poet, Friedrich Von Schiller. An impressive statue of Schiller resides in the park. "

"During World War I, the American sentiment had turned against all things German and Schiller Park was renamed Washington Park. Several of the German Street names in the area also were changed. After the war, the park's name was changed back to Schiller, although most of the streets did not revert to their pre-war names (German Village Society, 1992). "

"The park is now a well kept central location of German Village life. The recreation center, picnic areas, softball diamonds, fishing pond and stage for the Actors' Theater Company's summer Shakespeare productions, not to mention the beautifully landscaped gardens make Schiller park the jewel of German Village

Can't get a date?

I guess it hinges on your understanding of the word "unaccompanied."

In the July 6, CityLimits page of Alive!  a Dispatch publication, Brian Lindamood wrote (compiled?)  in part:

"State Lifts Ban on Booty-Shaking"

"A 1925 Ohio law that banned unaccompanied minors from dance halls was wiped from the books by state lawmakers. Last year Columbus cops used the state law to cite the Alrosa Villa and Newport Music Hall for hosting all age shows."

I read that aloud to a friend who shall remain anonymous...he was puzzled about why the venues would be cited because the teens could not get a date.

Maybe it was hearing the  "Booty-Shaking" in the  headline that befuddled him.   I explained to this parent that I thought the concept in 1925 when the law  was created  was that parent's accompany minors to "dance halls."

I added a link to the Alive! online presence to my Night Life list thinking they had online some of what was in the free paper ..... events... but I  will take the link off, as it's just paid ad links ....many to other real estate agents rather than about what is going on in Columbus... the paper said it has "the city's best arts and entertainment calendar."     I couldn't locate that online...

CarsIf you can't make it out to the Ohio Expo Center this weekend to see all the cars just go to one of the motel strips in the evening and walk around.  Or take chairs and just sit and watch them cruise.

We were on Sinclair last night  at my favorite Mexican Restauarant, (La Hacienda Real... owner is recovering.) We went to the hotel next door and looked at all the cars in their parking lot.  Then we went across the street to the hotel and looked at the cars in their parking lot.

Then we went up to the Crosswoods area and cruised through. Lots of cars, lots of people. My previous favorite Mexican Restauarant is in the Crosswoods area so we knew lots of the  car owners stay in that area. A couple of years ago we met an out of town couple .. we were waiting for a table... they were waiting for a table.  We talked about Mexican food, their car, where they were from...I can't remember where they were from or what kind of car they had.   He had a "ZZ Top"  beard so is indelibly in my memory.  Colorful people. Colorful cars.

My blog bud Bonnie blogged about a similar event in St. Paul MN last month.

OhioWhat do Ohio license plates say?  "Birthplace of Aviation ?"

Blogging Ohio mentions a local event I had not heard of: previously.

Ride a historical airplane

"It will be in Columbus July 8-11 at OSU Airport. Hop on for a historical flight."

OSU airport not that popular with it's neighbors... or has that died down?
