Ice Cream Sunday... brrr it's cold

Ice Cream Trivia from the Trivia Bot on Twitter:

I like trivia.... I am very good at Trivial Pursuit. I have a category here for Columbus Trivia.  Know any?  Share it.... I also have a category about cows here but the Trivia Bot's cows are just cows in general not Columbus cows necessarily.  I am sure though that Central Ohio cows do their part for ice cream...

More about Ice Cream in Central Ohio?

John Henderson of the Denver Post wrote of
Columbus ice cream amongst his worldly travels:

"The only place in the United States I've managed to find tastes that accurate is, of course, that tropical paradise and ice cream capital of the world: Columbus, Ohio. OK, our image of Columbus is of freezing air billowing out of some crazed Ohio State linebacker during the Michigan game on a 30-degree day in November."

Henderson was talking about Jeni's Ice Cream.  Columbusite Jeni is one of the sixteen women entrepreneuers featured in the book 'Real You Incorporated' by Kaira Sturdivant-Rouda.

Also heard via Twitter this week:

"jeni's new grapefruit hibiscus yogurt rocks!"  from Heather a Columbus food blogger who writes on  Sopressata

Jul. 16, 2006 - Ice Cream Sunday

It will be spring soon (Buckey Chuck said so), lots of Ice Cream Sundays in 2008

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment about ice cream. All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks. Copyright 2008 Discover Columbus and Maureen

New Business Moo-ving to Central Ohio

cowI just heard it on Channel 6 News there is a new dairy farm moving to Madison County. West of my normal stomping grounds, I work mostly along the north outerbelt... but the news that a huge dairy farm... it will be the largest dairy farm in the state is moving anywhere in Central Ohio caught my attention...

I wonder where they are moving from...

I called Madioson County as a great spot for cows relocatiing to Central Ohio in

If the California Cows Relocated to Central Ohio:

"
If California cows relocated to Ohio from expensive California markets they could probably buy up a lot of land somewhere in many of the Central Ohio counties including Delaware, Licking, Madison, Fairfield. Yes it is not as sunny here as California but land prices are much more reasonable, that should make for bovine bliss."

Central Ohio - Midwest

More cows... sorry I like Cows.

These are not California Cows in this commercial... as you will see they are Midwestern cows....

I think those cows are from North or South Dakota (remember the movie Fargo?) or Minnesota. Ohio cows would talk different but how would they talk?

I've shared this amazing quiz before. What American Accent Do YOU have?

Frank Smith writes of Ohio accents on BlackTable.com

"Not everyone in Ohio speaks with the midwestern nasal twang. Some do. In the Northern part of the state this is certainly the case. But if you move towards the hillier portion of the state, you hear a lot more about warshing dishes and hunnerd dollar bills, but somewhere in the middle everything levels out into a crisp non-accented cadence that is as clear as the words on this screen. In fact, the Ohio accent is the basis of the accent taught to newscasters. Newscasters on the televisual machine, meaning: the Ohio accent is so bland that you wouldn't even know it if you heard it because there's nothing to hear except the words, man. The words."

I think I talk like an Ohioan usually... the quiz "heard" the Wisconsin in my voice. " You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

I did not fool the test. Can you?

A Central Ohio Accent

Voices in Columbus have various accents. Many of us are originally from someplace else. I always think I sound just like everyone else in Central Ohio until I realize there are lots of different accents in Central Ohio.

Ohio has lots of people who have a much more Southern speach pattern to my ears than what I am used to from growing up in the Upper Great Lakes. I grew up in Wisconsin.

The Midwestern cow in this video is certainly from Minnesota or North or South Dakota... not from Ohio or even Wisconsin... well maybe Western Wisconsin.

A test... test your voice and you don't even need to talk.
