As promised by local forecaster, severe weather hit Central Ohio today the first day of summer. Shortly after 11:00 this morning the Worthington HER Real Living office lost phone and power and the Worthington Fire Department visited with two big fire trucks, axes and other accoutrement.
A neighbor called in that our office was hit by lightening. Once the firemen (and the fire woman.. at least one... there may have been more) determined there was no fire in the building or our attic they left. Those firefighters (I assumed it was a man driving each vehicle but I was up in a front conference room.. so firefighters is gender neutral ) can sure drive!
Anyone who has visited the office knows about HER Worthington's long driveway, sharp turn and the narrow parking lot. When we have meetings the parking lot is full. We had training, a 10:00 A.M . training class today. The lot was full. There is a 90 degree turn from the driveway to the parking lot with a brick wall along it. Making the turn coming up the driveway with their lights and sirens the crowds on the front porch and in the windows of the building were impressed.
Many of us doubted it was physically possible for the ladder truck ( I do not know fire vehicles...but one of the agents in my office has a family member who builds fire trucks he called it something else... looooong truck ladder on top? Built by Sutphen? ) to back around the corner... other's assured if it came in through the turn it could back out through the turn. Not if I was driving it.
Amazing driving!!!
The shaded area is HER Real Living.
The dashed lines are the driveway and parking lot. There is a brick wall on the north side of the driveway and at the turn along the east side.
We are getting a second exit! Access to Highland Ave. with the new CFBank that is coming to Worthington and building on Highland Avenue.
"Its regional president is Worthington resident Parker MacDonell, who said he chose a Worthington location because it is a rich deposit market, is close to other banks, is highly visible, and has good access to I-270. "
"He told council he also wants to help the economic vitality of the community, and said the bank would be willing to share its exit onto Highland Avenue with the HER building located behind the site."
That exit would have been welcome to the vans and other vehicles that entered from High Street and then had to back out onto High Street before the two huge fire trucks could back down our driveway.
Thanks to the Worthington Fire Fighters that stopped by to see if we had been hit by lightening.
As promised Severe Weather:
